Read All About It – Weekly Update 8/9/24.

 

Weekly forecast 

The worst of the rain now seems to have passed and a much cooler North Westerly moderate to fresh wind flow is forecast to establish itself. There will be sunny intervals with a few light showers but much cooler daytime temperatures in the middle of the week with max 14 to 17 and min 6 to 13.

 

Road race results

No results of which we are currently aware.

 

Off-Road race results

Sunday saw Rob Robertson run the New Forest Marathon which is now 80% on forest trails. Rob finished an excellent 23rd out of 751 finishers in a time of 3.10.18.

 

Sunday saw Yvonne Rogers run the Blackdown Hills trail half. The course has over 1600ft of climb with Yvonne finishing 5th lady overall and 2nd in her age category

 

Multi Event Results

Saturday saw Shan McCarthy and Mark Rush take part in the Dorset Gravel 100k bike ride – covering 4900ft of climb in the 100k finishing in 8.36 elapsed time.

 

Sunday saw Ben Nicholas take part in the Great Exmoor cycle event climbing 1300ft in the 66-mile ride starting from Taunton. Ben was first to finish at Blue Anchor in 4.39.42.

 

Sunday saw 4 Weston members take part in the open water marathon swim from Totnes which is 10k down the river Dart. Rachael Vincent finished in 2.42.11. followed by Ness Wilce in 2.50.12, Pete Stacey in 3.14.46 and Rachel Stacey in 3.26.53.

 

Sarah Weare took part in a team sprint tri event in Wiltshire on Sunday, but no results are available yet.

Prom Run this Thursday 12/9

The first races of the 24/25 prom run series take place this week with Junior race at 6.45 and the 5-mile race at 7.30. Entries for the 5-mile race close at 9.00pm on Tuesday the 10th so do not miss out.

We have a new race HQ this year at Revo with the start and finish in the same position by the Tropicana as before. Because it is a new HQ, and everybody will need to pick up your numbers please leave a bit extra time to get yourself ready.

The Junior race will run in front of Revo so please take care of the runners crossing if you are entering between 6.45 and 7.00pm.

 

Prom Team entries

Nia Davies is organising the teams for the 24/25 prom series. If you have not let Nia know via fb that you wish to be in a team, please drop her a mail.

 

 

Prom Run, Xmas Cracker and Muddle are open for entries 

The Xmas Cracker and the Mendip Muddle are open for entry on the Race Nation website or via the WestonAC website.

We will be running our Xmas Cracker couch to 10k beginners’ group for the 11th year running starting in October. Paul Baker will be organising the program, so if you or any friends or family want to start running, return to running after a break or injury, or want help to motivate you then this is the group you/they need. Meetings on Monday nights and Saturday mornings are supported by our Leaders and club members who will be there to help you. TWAC 

Monday 9th September our very own IRONMAN Sarah Weare has planned the BEST social run EVER in / around Yatton. Suitable for all as there will be several groups to suit different speeds & distances. All routes contain lots of fun & Friendship.

Meet 6:50pm – St Marys Church Car Park in Yatton

Parking is limited please car share where possible, Well Lane along on the opposite side of the high Street is an option if the Car Park is full.

Bring : Head Torch, Change of clothes & shoes (essential with very wet ground, Money for Beer. Pub After : Butchers Arms

Tuesday Reps/Intervals   

This week 10/9 there will be 1 effort session taken by Nick and Jim.

With the amount of rain that we have had lately we will not use the field but meet at Hutton Moor car park at 6.45 and run to Ashcombe park for the session which will be suitable for all abilities.

Warm up start 6.50pm. run to Ashcombe park – one mile

Main session

Approx 30 min increasing efforts and changes of pace.

Cool down steady run back to Hutton Moor

 

From Tuesday 17/9 reps/intervals will be back on the seafront.

 

Wednesday Swimming

The Wednesday swim sessions at Burnham-on-Sea pool have now re-started.

The Wednesday night swims are currently full, so a waiting list is in operation. Please message Margaret before transferring any £££. There are limited spaces left for the last 5 sessions. Priority will be given to those who have booked for the first 5 and wish to extend for the full 10. The next payment block of 10 starts on Wed 13 November 2024

The sessions are suitable for beginners to seasoned triathletes, injured runners – develop your aerobic capacity and muscles you didn’t know existed

Sessions starting from 4/9 can be booked now in blocks of five (£32.50) or ten (£55.00) ad hoc PAY as you GO (£6.50) sessions occasionally available, for PAYG – please ask if there’s space prior to session

You need to be a fully paid-up WAC member to access sessions.
