Weekly forecast
The unusual October warmth is forecast to continue for a few more days before the wind strengthens to moderate giving a couple of wet days Wednesday and Thursday before dropping again to gentle and to be dry but colder next weekend. The wind will be mainly westerly, temperatures will be Max. 15 to 20 and Min. 8 to 15.
Road race results
Thursday saw the first prom run of the 23/24 series. There were 44 WAC runners in a field of 220 pre-entries with 180 finishers. Julian Forbes was 1st WAC man home in 28.43 followed by Kieron Summers in 28.49 and Matt Davies in 30.48. Laura Fricker was 1st WAC lady in 32.22, followed by Phillipa Stephens in 36.42 for 1st V50 and Sian Roberts in 38.59 for 3rd V50. Rachael Vincent was 2nd V60 in 41.12.
Sunday saw 4 WAC runners take part in the Chicago marathon. Susan Duncan finished in an excellent 3.02.52, followed by Steve Kibblewhite in 3.09.42 and Paul Cousins in 3.46.36.
Sunday saw the second championship race of the week the Burnham half marathon. Darren Stacey was 1st WAC man in 1.25.45, followed by James Bertenshaw in 1.28.05 and Rob Robertson in 1.28.41. Hannah Keating was 1st WAC lady in 1.40.56, followed by Stefania Merrifield in 1.58.43 and Sophie Bennett in 1.58.44.
Off-Road race results
Friday saw 5 WAC members start the Atlantic Coast Challenge of 3 marathons in 3 days along the coast path. The first stage is Padstow to Perranporth, Perranporth to St Ives and lastly on Sunday Lelant to Lands’ End. Bex Vaughan, Liza French, Lee Francis, Chris Loach, and Nick Jones all completed the first day, full results are not yet available yet.
Saturday saw Mark Rush and Andrew Popham take part in a new 23-mile man vs horse event on the Quantocks. No results yet available.
Sunday saw 4 WAC runners take part in the Black Nore 10k multi organised by Portishead. Yvonne Rogers was 1st WAC runner in 58.38 and 4th in her age cat, followed by Mel Trego in 61.54 and 5th in her age cat, Sara Chiswell-Jones in 68.46 and Wendy Wilfan in 73.58.
Multi Event results
17 WAC members were entered in the Minehead Sprint Tri. The event comprises 750m sea swim, 20k bike ride and 5k run on the seafront. Cam Slater was 1st WAC man in 1.15.48 followed by Kev Bale in 1.18.07 and Simon Hall in 1.25.49. Rachael VIncent was 1st WAC lady and 1st v60 in 1.29.25 followed by Louise Derrick in 1.36.57, Liz Henden in 1.47.15. Margaret Sills was 1st V70 in 2.11.15.

London Ballot
The ballot for the one club place in the 2024 London Marathon will take place at the Prom run on the 19/10/23. If you meet the criteria to apply and have not yet let us have your entry, please get this to us by 9.00pm Sunday 15th of Oct.
Championship 2023
A new tab has been added to the website under members/2023 Championship which is a points summary. The latest summary will show the position after the Burnham half marathon.
A link has been added on the points summary page making it easier for you to find the detailed points position and list of the 2023 championship races.
We have had confirmation that the Herepath half marathon will not take place this year. The Stickler 3 peaks race organised by Dorset Doddlers on the 29/10 will replace the Herepath half in the championship.

Chris McMillan has posted the dates for the Gwent series events on the Weston Social fb with first event being in Pembrey park on the 14/10.
Chris is happy to handle the administration of entries as last year, please drop him a message if you intend to take part. Entry will be £5 this year.
Prom Run Series 23/24, Christmas Cracker (10/12) and Mendip Muddle (22/10) are all now open for entries.
All 3 races are now open for entries on the Race Nation site.
Following the first Prom Run on the 5/10/23. The next event of the 23/24 series is now only 11 days away. Don’t forget there will be no entry on the night with entries for the 19/10 race closing at 9.00pm on Tuesday the 17th of Oct.
Xmas Cracker volunteer survey
Thank you for all the responses that have so far been sent to Nicky Baker. The race relies on all club members volunteering to help on the day so if you have not got your response in yet can you please take a few minutes to get it back to Nicky as we still have many roles that need to be filled on the 10th of December.
Cracker Beginners group
The Cracker beginner/improver/returner group started last Monday with a further meeting on Saturday on the seafront. If you have any friends who would like to take part in the group, they still have time and can join the group on Monday the 9th of Oct together with a number of runners who have signed up but were not able to make the first session so don’t let them think they are too late. Please get friends and contacts to message/mail Paul Baker or Rachel Stacey for more information and to register.
TWAC
TWAC session this week 9/10/23 is titled ‘BH or not BH’ meet 6.50 NT car park at the far end of Sand Bay. BS22 9UD
Two loops for you to choose from. One loop short including BH and one long loop with a gentle hill. As usual you can decide on tough or easy and fast or slow
A great session for every ability and pace.
This session is for everyone, new and old!
Tuesday Reps/Intervals
Tuesday training now returns to the seafront for the winter. Meet 6.50 at the shelter between the Trop and Revo.
The session this week will be 5 x 30 secs accelerating for Z2 -Z5 (easy -hard Rpe)
Then
8 x 2min Z4 -hard Rpe 8/9 60 secs rolling recovery easy.
Followed by Cool down.
The Wednesday swim sessions at Burnham-on-Sea pool
Wednesday swim sessions restart this week – Wednesday 30th August, Burnham on Sea Swim & Sport Academy
Time: poolside 20:20hrs, swim 20:30 – 21:30hrs
You need to be a fully paid-up WAC member to access sessions, they can be booked in blocks of 5 (£32:50) or 10 (£55:00) Please contact Margaret Sills for payment details.
Occasional PAYG sessions are sometimes available; please arrange with Margaret before turning up.
