Road race results

Not a Championship race but that did not stop 17 WAC members travelling to Bideford on Sunday the 6th of March to take part in the popular Bideford half marathon. The race undulates alongside the river for the first 6.5 miles and then returns along the Tarka Trail back to Bideford to the impressive bridge crossing and riverside finish.

The WAC ladies certainly liked the scenic course and achieved nine pb’s and the men too with two more. Five of the ladies finished inside the top fifteen ladies which also won them the team prize for the team of first 3 WAC finishers.

Susan Duncan was second overall and 1st V40 in a super new PB of 1.21.45, Alice Smith was fifth overall and 1st V35 in pb of 1.25.01, Laura Fricker was 3rd WAC lady ninth overall and 2nd V35 in pb of 1.30.55, Hannah Keating 14th overall in pb of 1.32.12 and Katie Gormley 15th overall in pb of 1.32.57. Sheryl Selway, Shaleen Summers, Julie Monaghan and Wendy Wilfan all ran fine races too

Kev Bale ran a great time of 1.17.10 for his new pb and Bradley Smith 1.34.25 for his new pb with Mark Bowskill finishing in 1.50.03 as part of his Ironman training

Off-Road race results

The Grizzly is no longer a WAQC championship race due to the difficulty in gaining entry, but it did not stop 6 WAC off-road lovers taking part in what is probably the most popular 20ish mile off-road race in the country. The rainy conditions of the last few weeks created seriously muddy sections to add to the sections of shingle beach, hills, and bogs of the usual course that the race is so loved for.

Rob Mountford was 1st WAC man to finish in 3.00.38 followed by Chris Loach in 3.21.45 and Pip Stephens 1st WAC lady in 3.21.59. Sarah White, Shan McCarthy, and Pete Gillespie finished together in 4.47 and Pete Bartlett in 5.18
