Read All About It – Weekly Update 6/10/24

 

Weekly forecast 

The forecast this week is for the weather to remain unsettled with rain Monday and Tuesday then sunny intervals as well as further showers. The wind will start the week as a southerly then changing to northerly, bringing colder weather before returning to our usual westerly at the end of the week, strength will be moderate to gentle throughout. Max temperatures 11 to 17 and min 3 to 11.

 

Road race results

Sunday saw Andy Pitts take part in the Chester marathon. Andy finished in 3.45.31.

 

Sunday saw 5 WAC members take part in the Cardiff Bay half marathon. Peter Morton was 1st WAC finisher in 1.21.34 followed by Dawn Kinghorn in 2.09.19, Phil Brett in 2.20.31. Kate Wilson in 2.31.04 and Lindsey Clifford in 3.10.31. 

 

Off-Road race results

The weekend has seen 3 WAC runners take part in the Atlantic Coastal Challenge. Starting at Padstow and finishing at Land’s End they run 3 marathons on consecutive days along, and mainly up and down, the coast path. The weather was kind for the first 2 days but not too good for the Sunday marathon. On the first day Toby Norman finished 14th overall in 4.55.12 with Bex Vaughan 5.25.09 and Lee Francis 5.54.57. The second day saw Toby pay for his fast first day with sore legs, Bex finished in 5.30 and Toby in 5.54. The final day saw another massive amount of climbing with Bex finishing in 7.06 and Toby in 8.21.

Saturday saw 3 WAC members take part in the Bristol and Bath trail escape races. Georgie Ford completed the full trail marathon in 4 hrs 59mins whilst Julie Bailiss finished the 25k version in 2.40.16 and Helen Diamond 2.50.50 (both gun times).

 

Sunday saw Astrid Noordermeer and Jack Van Veen complete the Quantock hill trail half marathon which has over 2700ft of climb in the 13-mile course. Astrid finished in 2.56.20 with Jack just behind.

 

Multi Event Results

Sunday has seen Nick Cook complete the Barcelona Ironman. Nick completed the swim in 1.03.32 and the bike section in 5.35.21. Nick completed his run in 4.32.33 and after adding transition times it gave him a new provisional pb of 11.28.05. A very well-deserved result from such committed training.

 

Sunday also saw Approx. 40 WAC members take part in the Minehead Tri. Full results can be found on the website or on the Split-Second timing page, some members have not entered as Weston. Cam Slater finished 9th overall in 1.16.43, Kevin Bale finished 2nd WAC man and 5th V40 in 1.17.18 with Gregory Speller 3rd WAC man in 1.22.16. Katie Gormley was 1st WAC lady in 1.31.48, followed by Louise Derrick 1:37:50 and Joanne Stirling 1:38:19. Rachel Stacey was 3rd V60 in 1.52.17, Michelle Lynham 4th V60 in 1.52.51 and Chris Edwards 2nd V70 in 2.13.34. Well-done everybody who took part esp. if it was your first sea swim.

The Xmas Cracker and the Mendip Muddle are open for entry on the Race Nation website or via the WestonAC website.

It is that time of the year when plans need to be drawn up for our biggest race of the year. All club members will have received an email on Sunday or Monday last week with a link to survey monkey for you to complete with details of your availability and preferences. Thanks to those who have completed it already if you have not yet replied please try to find time to complete this quickly as it makes the job so much easier for Nicky not to be chasing for responses. If you do not see this in your inbox it could be in your spam folder.

 

Mendip Muddle marshals and helpers.

Adrian Noble is recruiting the marshals and helpers for the race on the 20th of October. We are still short of the help needed so please drop Adrian a message or mail if you can help.

Monday 7th October is a social run from Shipham suitable for everyone as we will split into several groups offering different speeds /distances.

Tuesday Reps/Intervals  This week 8/10 there will be 1 effort sessions taken by Jim. Meet on the seafront at 6.50 between the Trop and Revo. Parking on the front is free after 6.00pm but may be busy with set up fo the Enduro now in full swing.

Warm up followed by

4 x 3 min, 4 x 2 min, 5 x 1 min, 5 x 30secs with relevant Rolling Recoveries.

Wednesday Swimming

The Wednesday swim sessions at Burnham-on-Sea pool have now re-started.

The Wednesday night swims are currently full, so a waiting list is in operation. Please message Margaret before transferring any £££. There are limited spaces left for the last 5 sessions. Priority will be given to those who have booked for the first 5 and wish to extend for the full 10. The next payment block of 10 starts on Wed 13 November 2024

The sessions are suitable for beginners to seasoned triathletes, injured runners – develop your aerobic capacity and muscles you didn’t know existed

Sessions starting from 4/9 can be booked now in blocks of five (£32.50) or ten (£55.00) ad hoc PAY as you GO (£6.50) sessions occasionally available, for PAYG – please ask if there’s space prior to session
