Read All About It – Weekly Update 4/6/23.

 

 Weekly forecast

 The forecast for this week shows that the glorious sunny weather is going to continue for another 7 days at least. Sunny conditions and a moderate North Easterly breeze will bring max temperature of 21 to 24 with night min of 8 to 12 degrees. There is no rain forecast for the next week.

 

Road race results

Saturday 3/6/23 saw Rob Robertson take part in the Dartmoor Discovery ultra marathon. This is the longest single loop road race in England at 32 miles and over 4000ft of climb. Rob finished 31st overall in a time of 5.02.56.

 

Off-Road race results

Sunday 4/6/23 saw so many club members take part in one of the 4 Mendip challenge races organised by Weston Hospicecare being 5 miles, 10 miles, 20 miles, and 30. The weather could not have been sunnier all day and the easterly wind kept it a bit cool. The event was so well organised with a great atmosphere and feed stations with more food and drink than ever. At least 27 members completed the 30 mile-mile route with over 4000ft of climb from Wells to the Uphill cricket club which acts as one of the Club Championship long off-road races this year. Not a club event or race but Wednesday saw Clare Harvey and Emma Lane run 5-mile loops in Weston woods from 7am to 7pm. They were joined by many friends dropping by to complete a lap or two during the day with Clare and Emma completing 44 miles.

 

Multi Event results

Update from Niki Fulstow about Monday the 29th of May.

3 club members took part in the Westonbirt Tri. It was Wendy’s first Tri & she loved it! There was a relentless headwind on the bike leg which made for a testing time, but otherwise a great day in the sunshine.

Update from Rachel Vincent 4/6/23

3 triathletes raced this weekend.

Judit Salmon – Cotswold 113 who completed her first middle distance (1.9k swim, 100k bike, 13k run) event this weekend in a time of 08hrs 02min.

 

Sam Martin – Bristol Triathlon standard distance (1.5k swim, 35k bike, 10k run) official time TBC, unofficial time Approx. 2:12:16 – improving on last years’ time by almost 10 mins.

 

Rachael Vincent – Weymouth Classic (1.5k swim, 39k bike, 10k run) 3:01:56 – first in age category FV60plus. The sea swim was lively with a good swell to make sighting difficult.

Information and help needed.

 

Your 2023/2024 membership is now overdue, and you will have received an email confirming how to proceed. Thank you to the 30 people who renewed during the last 7 days. A reminder to those who have yet to renew that your EA membership will now be treated as expired from Wednesday 31/5/23 and you will no longer be able to claim the £2 discount or other EA benefits. If you wish to continue to attend any of the Weston AC club sessions or still be considered part of the club, please can you renew to avoid our membership secretary having to remind people.

A new tab has been added to the website under members/2023 Championship which shows a points summary. A link has been added on the points summary page making it easier for you to find the detailed points position and list of the 2023 championship races.

Clevedon 10k 13/6/23

The Clevedon 10k closes for online entries at midnight 9/6/23. Entries will be available on the night but at slightly higher prices – see CAC website for details.

 

Nailsea Beer and Banger  

The Beer and Banger 10k will be much earlier this year than in 2022 and was this week announced as taking place on Friday 30/6/23. Entries are open with plenty of places left at present, but the race is always popular so enter soon if you wish to be in it.

 

TWAC

The Monday evening TWAC session this week 5/6/23 is titled ‘Where’s my Speedo’s’ Meet 6.50 in the car park at Salt House fields Clevedon, group runs in 3 large groups of approx. 90 min duration. Followed by own drinks etc. – see TWAC fb for more detail.

 

The Wednesday swim sessions at Burnham-on-Sea pool re-started 12/4

The next block of Wednesday swim sessions at Burnham-on-Sea pool now need to be booked and paid for and payment for the next 10 sessions, started 12th April, becomes due. Numbers limited so please pay as soon as you can to reserve your place.

Wednesday evenings 20:20 – 21:30 Burnham on Sea pool. £55 for 10 sessions (£32.50 for 5 if work takes you away).

We now have the June code for the 10% discount and free postage on orders from Sportsshoes (min order value £50). This code is on the WAC members social fb page for WAC member use only. Please ask Jim, Helen, or Julia if you do not access to fb and wish to put in an order with them. (NB Now includes Brooks shoes again)

 

We currently have yellow club kit available in most sizes. New members can pick up their kit at training on Tuesday night at Hutton Moor. Come along at about 6.50 or 7.45/8.00 and find Jim Wotton. If you cannot get to Hutton Moor let Paul Cousins or Jim Wotton know and we will see what we can do. Ladies kit comes in sizes 8, 10, 12 etc.

Saturday AM session – 8.00am Meet point TBC session to be taken by Jason or Sheryl – suitable for all abilities.
