New Year Greetings
The committee and coaches wish all our members a Happy and Healthy New year.
Weekly forecast
The forecast for the week shows that the unsettled weather will continue until Thursday but then starting to become a bit cooler and more settled. A westerly strong/gusty wind with rain most days heavy at times gives way to dryer and moderate light wind by Friday. Maximum temperatures on Monday at 10 down to 7 max by the weekend, minimum 9 on Monday down to minimum 2 by Friday.
Road race results
Tuesday saw 34 members take part in the Clevedon Boxing Day 4-mile race which was the last event of the 2023 championship.
Chris Selman was 1st WAC man to finish and was 4th V40 in 22.22 followed by Darren Stacey in 22.32 and Kevin Bale in 23.02. Richard Goddard was fifth V60 in 26.07.
Hannah Keating was 1st WAC lady in 27.03 followed by Louise Davidson in 28.53 and 3rd WAC Rachael Vincent who was also 1st V60 in 30.16
Saturday saw many runners take part in parkruns at Weston, Burnham, Clevedon, and Cheddar with the windy conditions not stopping Rob Robertson from achieving a new 5k pb of 18.14.
Rob’s pb efforts of Saturday did not stop him from running in the Devon Bell Challenge completing a marathon over eight laps and 1200ft of climb in 3.11 (Official result awaited)
Lindsey Clifford and Phil Brett took part in the Les Croupiers organised Old Father Time 5-mile vets race in Cardiff on the 31st.

The Weston awards night will take place at the Grand Pier on Friday 9th February 2024. There is an event on the WAC fb social site for you to confirm you intention to come (or send mail to Georgie Ford or Jim Wotton) Further detail will follow shortly.
Thursday Night Training start time changed to 6.30 at Hutton Moor
The result of the poll mentioned in last week’s update shows an overwhelming majority of members would like to see a trial of an earlier start time for Thursdays run from Hutton Moor. As of Sunday, 63% of respondents have requested 6.30pm and 28% 6.00pm, leaving only 9% voting to continue at 7.00pm as at present.
From this Thursday 3/1/24 we will start a trial of meeting at 6.20 at Hutton Moor with a run start time of 6.30
Championship 2023
The provisional results of the championship including all races and marathon points are now shown on the website under the members/2023 Championship tab. As well as the overall points position there is a link to the spreadsheet showing every race and points allocated to each participant.
Volunteer members have manually completed the input it is possible that your participation in a race or time has been missed or entered incorrectly. Will you please take time to review the races that are shown for you and advise John Hinchliffe or Jim Wotton of any races that are missing for you and any queries that you may have over points allocated.
With the presentation evening taking place on 9/2/24 please let us have any comments by Monday 8/1/24 before trophy preparation begins.
2024 Championship
Details of the 2024 championship structure and races have previously been announced and are shown on the website under members/2024 Championship.
The races for January and February are as follows:
10/1 Street 5k Short Road
28/1 Slaughterford Off-Road
10/2 Exeter half Long Road
25/2 Babcary 7 Long Road
WAC Yellow Vest and T-Shirt survey
All current members will be receiving a free new Vest and T if you want one or both.
Paul Cousins has kindly taken on the role of club kit distribution and has sent out a survey to see what shirt/vest members want and what size they would like.
The survey is on the Weston social fb page and a mail has also been sent to everybody’s email address. Thank you to everybody who has already completed the survey. Can all members please complete asap as it will only take sixty secs max. and help speed up getting the new kit to everybody as quickly as possible.
TWAC
There will be TWAC session this Monday 1/1/24 at 12.00 Noon– ‘Don’t Peak too soon’ Meet Webbington Rd car park 11.50am
New Year but same TWAC, to the hills for Crook Peak hill repeat session.
All about coming as you are on this session as we will be working all together and best thing is you can go all out for a hard hill repeat session or just take it easy and enjoy the company.
Twalkers will be involved in this session too.
Session based on starting at the bottom of Crook Peak and running up for 60 seconds then recovering to the new start marker.

Tuesday Reps/Intervals
There will be organised reps/intervals session this Tuesday 2/1/24– Meet at the shelter 200m south of the Tropicana at 6.50 for 7.00pm start.
The Wednesday swim sessions 20.20 to 21.30 at Burnham-on-Sea pool is on this Wednesday 3/1/24 as usual.
Over winter is the ideal time to brush up and develop your swimming technique, ideal prep for next season. Suitable for beginners to seasoned triathletes, injured runners – develop your aerobic capacity and muscles you didn’t know existed
Sessions can be booked in blocks of five (£32.50) or ten (£55.00) ad hoc PAYG (£6.50) sessions occasionally available, for PAYG – please ask if there’s space prior to session

Wednesday – Swimming sessions Burnham poolside 20.20 – See above.
Thursday – Group runs from Hutton Moor. All groups meet in car park at 6.20 for 6.30pm start, the route this week will be Club Circuit.
Saturday 8AM session – See WAC social for confirmation of meeting place and time later in the week.
