 Weekly forecast

 Winds that will be light to moderate initially westerly then variable will give a mixed week. Max daytime temperatures 14 to 15 and min 6 to 10. Light cloud and sunny intervals gives way to more rain from Thursday.

Road race results

Thursday 27/4/23 saw the 8th race of the Dave Jones Weston prom run.

Kieron Summers was 1st WAC man in 3rd place overall and 1st V40 in 28.14, followed by Matt Davies in 30.50 and James Bertenshaw in 31.16. Alice Smith ‘fresh’ from running 2 marathons in the previous 10 days was 1st WAC lady in 34.42 followed by Nia Davies 1st V50 in 35.41 and Sian Roberts 3rd V50 in 38.20.

 

On Sunday, the Glastonbury Round the Tor 10k championship race saw 4 club members take part. Susan Duncan was 1st WAC lady and 2nd V35 in 41.06, followed by Paul Baker in 42.57, Mollie Bowskill in 59.33 and Lesley Bowskill in 59.33.

 

Sunday 30th also saw Kieron Summers take part in the Dorset Villages marathon finishing an excellent 3rd overall in a time of 2.45.00

 

Sunday evening with a 7.00pm start saw 7 members run in the Cardiff 5k race in the city suburbs, a number of pb’s were achieved. Susan Duncan ran her 2nd race of the day to finish in 19.32, Nia Davies 19.38, Harry Eades 20.28, Sophie Jones 21.16, Katie Gormley 21.40, Louise Davison 22.44, and Clare Harvey 23.55.

 

Not a race but mention of social secretary Georgie Pink finishing 1st lady overall in the Weston Marine Parade parkrun in a time of 21.51.

  

Off-Road race results

 Saturday the 29/4 saw WAC members take part in 3 off-road ultras.

 

Nearest to home was the Butcombe ultra 56 and 50 covering much of the West Mendip way in both routes. Josh Harris completed the 56-mile run which includes over 8000ft of climb in the route in a time of 11.53.57. Shan McMahon, Sue Dyer, and Gaz Weaver took part in the 50-mile route. Shan and Sue stayed together until 32 miles when Shan carried on alone but was then joined by Sheryl Selway, who did the last 10miles with her, finishing the route that includes 6300ft of climb in 11.56. Gaz’s time is not currently known.

 

Liza French and Lucy Avery took part in the East Devon round. This route includes 9300 ft of climb in the 66.7 miles this year (a couple of miles seems to get added each time). The route starts north of Honiton travelling to Lyme Regis then using the coast path until Seaton when it heads back inland to Sidford and back to the start via Honiton again. Liza and Lucy finished together in 19 hours 22mins at 1.00am on the 30th.

 

Travelling slightly further afield and using the red funnel ferry to get there Kim Sims took part in the Isle of Wight Ultra Challenge 34-mile coast path ultra. The route starts at Cowes and travels via the Needles to the most southerly part and then returns via the Needles again the 34-mile route includes 2850ft of climb with Kim finishing in 9.34.26.

 

Multi Event results

Not a race but some tough cycling in Brecon Beacons on Saturday saw Nick Cook, Toby Andrews, Mark Bowskill, and others cover between 65 and 82-mile routes and between 6000 and 8000 ft climb in 3 or 4 big climbs.

Your 2023/2024 membership is now due, and you will have received an email confirming how to proceed. Thank you to the 15 people who renewed during the last 7 days, please renew when you can to make the membership secretaries job as easy as possible.

 

The AGM was held last Tuesday (25/4/23)

 

Minutes of the meeting will be available on the member only section of the website shortly, but 3 items of note are:

 

Paul Snelling raised, and the meeting passed a proposal that the prom run will now be known as the Dave Jones Weston Prom Run

 

Stuart Diamond raised, and the meeting passed a proposal that a subgroup be established to review all aspects of the structure and the way the club championship operates to make it as attractive as possible for club members to participate. If you wish to be involved in the subgroup with Stuart, Mark Hill and Steve Lovell please drop Stuart or Helen a mail.

The committee agreed that club fees for 2024/2025 will remain at £20. EA affiliation costs will be announced later in 2023.

A new tab has been added to the website under members/2023 Championship which shows a points summary. The detailed points position and list of the 2023 championship races is now on the Westonac.co.uk website under Races/handicap races/handicap results 2021-2022

TWAC

 

The Monday evening TWAC session this week 1/5/23 is titled (Stepping it Up) Meet 6.50 at the Brean Down overflow NT car park. Social warm up run to the Fort and back before step session for you to choose – approx. total 90 minutes duration. See TWAC fb for more detail.

 

The Wednesday swim sessions at Burnham-on-Sea pool re-started 4/1

The next block of Wednesday swim sessions at Burnham-on-Sea pool now need to be booked and paid for and payment for the next 10 sessions, started 12th April, becomes due. Numbers limited so please pay as soon as you can to reserve your place.

Wednesday evenings 20:20 – 21:30 Burnham on Sea pool. £55 for 10 sessions (£32.50 for 5 if work takes you away).

We now have the May code for the 10% discount and free postage on orders from Sportsshoes (min order value £50). This code is on the WAC members social fb page for WAC member use only. Please ask Jim, Helen, or Julia if you do not access to fb and wish to put in an order with them. (NB Now includes Brooks shoes again)

 

We currently have a full set of the yellow club kit sizes available. New members can pick up their kit at training on Tuesday night at Hutton Moor. Come along at about 6.50 or 7.45/8.00 and find Jim Wotton. If you cannot get to Hutton Moor let James or Jim Wotton know and we will see what we can do. Ladies kit comes in sizes 8, 10, 12 etc.

Thursday – – Group runs from Hutton Moor. Meet in the car park at 6.50 route this week will be the 4 Bridges route.

Group 6 only meet Debbie Vowles in the car park at 6.30pm

 

Saturday AM session – 8.00am Meet point TBC session to be taken by Jason or Sheryl – suitable for all abilities.
