Weekly forecast 

This week starts with gusty winds and light rain on Monday followed by gentle winds with sunny intervals for Tuesday and Wednesday. The wind changes to a moderate easterly from Wednesday night with light rain from Friday. The forecast shows max 9 to 11 and minimum 2 to 6 slightly cool for the time of year 9. 

Road race results

No races that we are aware of this week.


Off-Road race results 

Saturday saw new member Jason Garwood complete the Winter Green Man. This race is an off-road circuit of Bristol covering 45.6 miles with 4330ft of climb and this year as you can imagine the conditions underfoot and during the race were exceedingly difficult. Jason finished in 8.11.51 for 16th overall out of 152 finishers from 193 starters.

New Kit collection

Paul Cousins started distributing the new yellow tops last Thurs at Hutton Moor. Paul will next have the tops Monday (4th March) at the TWAC session, Tues (5th March) at Reps on the seafront and if anyone needs them at the Tri club swim session (6th March) please let Paul know and he will arrange for them to be there.

Paul also confirms that the club clothing shop (for items for purchase other than our yellow tops) is now live and can be found here…/weston-athletics-club.


2024 Championship

Details of the 2024 championship structure and races have previously been announced and are shown on the website under members/2024 Championship.

Following the announcement that the Humdinger was postponed there will be a replacement half added to the long road category. The replacement will be the Bristol half on the 19th of May. It was recently announced that there would be a 10% discount for Great Series runs for EA affiliated members – this may still be available.

The dates for a number of races have now been confirmed as: Clevedon 10k 11/6, Nailsea Beer and Banger 28/6, Yeovilton 5k 10/7, Herepath half 3/11.

The races for March, and April are:

23/3             Berkeley 20-mile      Long Road     (Race now full)

1/4               Shapwick Bunny       Off-Road       (Entries now open)

4/4               Prom Run                Short Road



Session details: Lambing social run from Dulhorn farm Holiday Park

Lots going on for this epic ‘best night ever.’

You can collect your new WAC tee & vest from Paul Cousins

You will get a chance to say hello to one of the new season’s lambs.

and most importantly an epic social run heading to Brent Knoll over new trails that you might not have run on before.

The runners will split into 4/5 groups if required and all run paces welcome for 90 minutes of social running.

Tuesday Reps/Intervals   

There will be two organised reps/interval session this Tuesday 27/2/24 –

Session one

Following on from last week focus will be thinking about relaxed controlled breathing.

Warm up 5min (as 3min progressive pace then 2min as 30secs fast 30secs easy)

Followed by 12x 1min hard / 1min easy.

Followed by 2x 2min comfortable / 2min hard with 45secs rolling recovery between.


Second session

South Rd reps

1mile warm-up

30 mins effort Approx 4 reps of South Rd

1mile cool down.


Both sessions for all abilities

All meet at the shelter between the Trop and Revo at 6.50 for 7.00pm start.

The Wednesday swim sessions 20.20 to 21.30 at Burnham-on-Sea pool

Over winter is the ideal time to brush up and develop your swimming technique, ideal prep for next season. Suitable for beginners to seasoned triathletes, injured runners – develop your aerobic capacity and muscles you didn’t know existed

Sessions can be booked in blocks of five (£32.50) or ten (£55.00) ad hoc PAY as you GO (£6.50) sessions occasionally available, for PAYG – please ask if there’s space prior to session

Thursday – Group runs from Hutton Moor at 6.20 for 6.30 start. Meet in the meeting room on the first floor inside Hutton Moor. The route this week will be the Hills route.


Saturday 8AM session – See WAC social for confirmation of meeting place and time later in the week.
