Tuesday training returns to Hutton Moor field 30/4/24 

 

Weekly forecast 

This week is forecast to be unsettled again but with the promise of warmer weather next weekend. Starting with fresh southerly winds on Monday and Tuesday the wind will turn to light to gentle variable for the rest of the week. Rain is promised at some point every day with heavier bursts on Tuesday, max temperatures 13 to 17 with min 7 to 10.

 

Road race results

Sunday saw 9 WAC runners take part in the Newport marathon on the revised course for 2024 and 3 WAC runners take part in the first Newport half as part of the marathon festival.

Ben Haines ran an excellently paced run to finish in 10th place overall and 1st M45 in a finishing field of over 2100 in a time of 2.39.13. Ben was closely followed by Ian Connock in 37th place with 2.48.54, Jack Van Veen ran a new Pb finishing with Paul Cousins in 4.10.59. There were also pb’s for James Davies in 4.25.46, Suzanne Walkley in 4.27.19 and Andy Galey in 4.32.07. Matt Huxtable finished in 4.41.48 and Jay Harris in 5.14.09.

Yvonne Rogers and Ian Regan finished the inaugural Newport half on part of the same course as the marathon in 1.46.08 with Marc Robinson finishing in 1.49.50. There was field of 1500 for the first running of the half.

Off-Road race results 

Sarah and Josh Harris both took part in an event around Bodmin on Sunday 28/4. Josh completed the Beacon Beast marathon and Sarah completed the new Beastie McBeastRace the Beastlie half. The half was scheduled to be just over 14 miles, but a few wrong turns meant Sarah managed 16.2 miles and 1960ft of climb finishing in 3.24.

No events that we are aware of this week.

Prom run 16th May 24 

Do not forget the last race of the 23/24 series takes place on the 16th of May. There will be no entries on the night with online entries closing Tuesday 14th May at 9.00pm.

 

Membership Renewal 1/4/24

Thank you to the 190 members who have already taken the time to renew their 24/25 membership. A quick look at the membership list shows that there are currently 154 people who were members in the 23/24 period that have yet to renew. Please try to find time to do this when you can.

2024 Championship

Details of the 2024 championship structure and races have previously been announced and are shown on the website under members/2024 Championship.

The races for May and June are:

28/6             Nailsea(Beer/Banger)Short Road

 

TWAC 

The TWAC session on Monday 29th of April is the TWAC members Monthly fell run – This month on BH. Meeting 18.50 at – Sand Point NT car park

How many loops of BH can you do in 60 minutes.

We will count your reps for you as you go to war against our famous hill.

We have light  finally, and the perfect time for a sunset.

Please bring:  Trail shoes,  Drink to have access to, Appropriate clothing for the weather.

Tuesday Reps/Intervals   

Please note from 30/4/24 we will be on the field at Hutton Moor 

There will be two organised reps/interval sessions this Tuesday 30/4/24 taken by Nick and  Jim.

Pyramid session – Working on consistent pacing.

1×1 minute effort with 30 seconds rolling recovery.

2×2 minutes. 60 seconds RR

2×3 minutes. 75 seconds RR

1×4 minutes. 90 seconds RR

Repeat x 2.

Both sessions for all abilities

All meet on the far side of the field at Hutton Moor at 6.50 for 7.00pm start, allow 5 mins to walk over.

 

The Wednesday swim sessions 20.20 to 21.30 at Burnham-on-Sea pool

Over winter is the ideal time to brush up and develop your swimming technique, ideal prep for next season. Suitable for beginners to seasoned triathletes, injured runners – develop your aerobic capacity and muscles you didn’t know existed

Sessions can be booked in blocks of five (£32.50) or ten (£55.00) ad hoc PAY as you GO (£6.50) sessions occasionally available, for PAYG – please ask if there’s space prior to session

Wednesday – Swimming sessions Burnham poolside 20.20 – See above.

 

Thursday – Group runs from Hutton Moor meet 6.20 for 6.30 start. Route this week will be the Hills route.
