Weekly Update 27/11/22

Weekly forecast

The forecast shows the weather will change from Tuesday to an Easterly airstream from Europe. This will bring much dryer but cooler conditions than we have had of late with light cloud cover. A gentle to moderate breeze will give maximum daytime temperatures of 7 to 9 and min night-time temperatures of 3 -5 degrees.

Off-Road race results

Saturday saw Guy and Freddie Bradford travel to the Brecon Beacons to take part in the Blorenge fell race. This race starts off straight into the climb to 1700ft climbing over 1500ft in the first mile, a detour on the way down makes the distance 3.5 miles. Despite a fall on the way down Freddie managed to finish 2nd Junior in 44.10 with Guy finishing in 48.20. There were 91 finishers in all.

Sunday saw the final off-road championship race take place the Brent Knoll fell race which is 6 miles in length. The wet weather over the last few weeks made the course challenging underfoot with a detour added for the second part of the decent but the weather on the day was kind.

Hannah Keating won the ladies race in 48.31 with Katie Gormley 2nd lady overall, Lindsey Clifford was 3rd WAC lady. Kevin Bale was 4th overall in 42.39, with Matt Wheeler 2nd WAC man and Rob Osment 3rd WAC man in 56.44.

The Brent Knoll race is also the last race in the Somerset series with the awards being made at the same event. Paul Snelling was 1st MV 65 in the series, Debbie Brookes 2nd LV55 and Helen Diamond 7th lady overall.

Sunday also saw the Tri-Counties cross country championships take place involving Avon, Somerset and Wiltshire with Susan and Chris flying the flag for Weston AC. Chris McMillan finished 3rd overall and 2nd Avon man with Susan Duncan finishing 4th overall and 1st LV35 for Avon
