Read All About It – Weekly Update 26/5/24. 

 

Weekly forecast 

The forecast is for another week of unsettled weather with rain at some point every day. Winds will be moderate to fresh, initially westerly then north westerly with sunny spells at first and longer sunny periods at the end of the week. Max temperatures 15 to 17 with min 9 to 12.

 

Road race results

Saturday 25th saw Yvonne Rogers take part in the HVAR half marathon in Bled in Croatia. This route includes 1400ft of climb and Yvonne finished 1st in her age group in 1.57.

 

Sunday the 26th saw the Wells 10k, part of the Somerset series, take place. Niki Fulstow finished in 51.18 for 6th in her age group and Rachael Vincent finished in 52:55 for 3rd in age group.

 

Sunday also saw the Exeter half marathon take place with Connor Davidson finishing in 1.43.29. Nine Weston members acted as Pacers from 1hr.30mins to 2.30: Darren Stacey, Rob Mountford, Laura Fricker, Nia Davies, Bill Green, Paul Cousins, Sheryl Selway, Jay Harris and Jack Van Veen.

 

Off-Road race results

Sunday saw Liza French and Jeremy Chappel take a late entry to the Brecon  marathon. This race covers 5300ft of climb around the Pen y Fan area with Liz and Jeremy finishing in 6 hrs 51.50.

Katie Gormley took part in the Taunton Trail 10k. Katie finished 1st lady and 2nd overall in a time of 47.59.

 

Multi Event results

Saturday 25/5 saw Ben Nicholas and Rob Robertson take part in the UK Velo Cotswold events. Ben took on the 100-mile event which was shortened slightly to 92 miles due to traffic and finished in 6.41. Rob did the medium route (100k) and finished in 4.31.58.

Sunday saw Kevin Bale take part in the ride London Classique (London/Essex) 100-mile event. Kev finished the ride in 5.22.55. Having competed the 100k Cotswold event on Saturday Rob Robertson completed the 100-mile on Sunday.

Membership Renewal 1/4/24

Thank you to the 7 who have renewed this week. The membership list shows that there are still 90 people who were members in the 23/24 period that have yet to renew. Renewal of club and EA membership needs to be completed by 31/5.

 

Club Clothing Shop

The club clothing shop is now open. Please see more detail on the Weston Social fb page and follow the link to Weston Athletics Club Archives – Karuta Sportswear (karuta-sportswear.com) Many of the first orders have now been delivers so lead times to delivery will now be much shorter.

 

2024 Championship

Details of the 2024 championship structure and races have previously been announced and are shown on the website under members/2024 Championship.

The races for June and July are:

11/6             Clevedon 10K           Short Road

28/6             Nailsea(Beer/Banger)Short Road

10/7             Yeovilton 5K            Short Road

17/7             Pawlett Plod 10k       Off Road

 

TWAC 

Evening session for Monday the 27th is the May TWAC fell race.

The 10k = 1,417 feet of elevation gain

But it is a 5-lap course of different loops up to the top so you can decide how many loops Meet 6.50 car park  at the top of Burrington Combe where the ice cream van usually is. ///disengage.overlook.leans

Trail shoes, appropriate clothing for weather and you can leave a drink that you will access to each lap.

Marshals required please.

James needs a hand for set up so it is a 5:45pm meet at car park  if you can.

Tuesday Reps/Intervals   

 

There will be two organised interval sessions this Tuesday 28/5/24 taken by Nick and Jim.

This week’s session focus : keep good running form.

Warm up Followed by

10 x 2mins  30secs  with a 30sec pick up at end of each rep.

2 mins portion of each rep at rpe 5/ 6 with last 30 secs at rpe 7/8

Rolling recovery 75 secs

 

Second session  on offer meet at Hutton Moor then run to Ashcombe park for hill rep session.

Both sessions for all abilities

 

The Wednesday swim sessions 20.20 to 21.30 at Burnham-on-Sea pool

Over winter is the ideal time to brush up and develop your swimming technique, ideal prep for next season. Suitable for beginners to seasoned triathletes, injured runners – develop your aerobic capacity and muscles you didn’t know existed

Sessions can be booked in blocks of five (£32.50) or ten (£55.00) ad hoc PAY as you GO (£6.50) sessions occasionally available, for PAYG – please ask if there’s space prior to session
