Read All About It – Weekly Update 26/2/23.

 

Weekly forecast

The forecast for this week shows a cooler spell brought on by a north easterly moderate to light wind which will be with us until Friday. This will give maximum day temps of 8 to 9 and cooler night temps of 1 to 4. Mainly cloudy with some sunny intervals and possible rain on Tuesday.

 

Road race results

Sunday 26th saw 7 WAC members take part in the Championship race The Babcary 7. This is a 7.5-mile road run organised by Wells. Katie Gormley finished first lady overall in a time of 53.51 followed by Debbie Brooks as 2nd WAC lady and Lindsey Clifford as 3rd WAC lady. Stuart Diamond was 12th overall and 1st WAC man in a new course pb, Followed by Mark, Colin Lintern and Paul Snelling. (Results are not yet out)

 

Off-Road race results

Saturday 25th saw Chris McMillan take part in the England National Cross-Country championships in Cheshire. This event was televised live with Chris being shown in the yellow vest on a least 2 occasions including crossing the finishing line in 77th place in a time of 38.49 less than 3 mins behind the winner. This is an impressive performance from a field of approx. 2000 including some the best CC runners in the country.

Saturday also saw Kim Sims take part in the Lulworth Cove Challenge organised by the Trail events company. This is a series of races covering 4 different distances with Kim choosing to do the 12k version.

Sunday saw the 2nd Championship race taking place today the Dursley Dozen. 3 WAC men went to take on the new course but still with Approx 12miles and 2000ft of climb. Marc Whiting was 1st WAC man in 1.55.00. Paul Baker finished in 1.59.58 with Gaz weaver in 2.12.06.

Sunday also saw 12 WAC runners take on the Nailsea organised Ironwood Challenge which is a race of just under 6 miles and 1000ft of climb. (Results not out yet)

Sunday also saw Sarah and Josh Harris travel to Wiltshire to take part in the Bowerhill Bomber organised by Redfish events. 6- mile off-road with a couple of hundred feet of climb but no results yet

The upcoming races are shown below. The Berkeley Fission 20/20(18/3) is shown as full, Bideford can be entered until 3/3. If you intend to enter the other races, then we suggest you do so now to avoid missing out.

TWAC

The Monday TWAC session this week 27/2/23 will meet at 6.50 at the Woodborough Inn. – session will be group runs along the Strawberry line with distances of between 5 to 7 miles depending on group – Approx 90 mins run. Please see TWAC FB for more detail.

 

The Wednesday swim sessions at Burnham-on-Sea pool re-started 4/1

The next block of sessions now need to be booked and paid for and payment for the next 10 sessions (starting 1st Feb) becomes due. Numbers limited so please pay a soon as you can to reserve your place.

Wednesday evenings 20:20 – 21:30 Burnham on Sea pool. £55 for 10 sessions (£32.50 for 5 if work takes you away).

We now have the February code for the 10% discount and free postage on orders from Sportsshoes (min order value £50). This code is on the WAC members social fb page for WAC member use only. Please ask Jim, Helen, or Julia if you do not access to fb and wish to put in an order with them. (NB Now excludes Brooks shoes)

We currently have a full set of the yellow club kit sizes available. New members can pick up their kit after training on Tuesday night at the seafront. Come along at about 6.50 or 7.45/8.00 and find Jim Wotton. If you cannot get to the seafront let Chris Loach or Jim Wotton know and we will see what we can do. Ladies kit comes in sizes 8, 10, 12 etc.

Tuesday session – Meet from 6.50pm at the Shelter between the Trop and Revo. Rep/Interval session to be taken by Carol, Sheryl, Nick, Jason, or Jim

 

Wednesday See above– Swimming sessions Burnham pool 8.20 poolside – See above.

 

Thursday – Group Runs from Hutton Moor – meet in car park at 6.50 – This week’s route will be the club circuit

 

Group 6 only meet Debbie Vowles in the car park at 6.30

 

Saturday AM session – 8.00am Meet point TBC session to be taken by Jason or Sheryl – suitable for all abilities.
