Read All About It – Weekly Update 25/2/24. 

Weekly forecast 

This week is forecast to have north easterly gusty wind on Sunday night and Monday but dry. From Tuesday the wind returns to a gentle south/south westerly then increasing to moderate breeze from Wednesday evening with rain or rain showers each day. The forecast shows max 8 to 11 and minimum 0 to 9.


Road race results

Sunday was the Babcary 7.5-mile road race, part of the WAC long road championship and the 2024 Somerset series. Full results are not yet available, but Stava times show Chris Selman was 1st WAC man in 44.57 Harry Eades completed after an eventful preparation in 1.01.03. Susan Duncan was first lady overall in 50.50 followed by Hannah Keating as second lady overall in 52.26. Niki Fulstow completed (time not known) followed by Yvonne Rogers in 1.00.58

3 WAC runners travelled to Wokingham on Sunday to take part in the very popular Wokingham half with a field of Approx. 2500. Ben Haines finished in 1.14.41, followed by Ian Connock in 1.18.05 and Laura Fricker in 1.25.32.

Sheryl Selway and Louise Davison travelled to Exeter on Sunday to take on a charity 10k by the river. The conditions were far from ideal with cold, wet, and windy weather but Louise was very happy with a 45.12 and Sheryl a 48.52 (both are Strava times as official results are not out yet)

New Kit collection 

Paul has now sorted and labelled all the new tops and will start issuing them from next Thurs 29th Feb between 5:30-7:30 at Hutton Moor in the room upstairs. You could pick your top up and run the club session after?

Paul will also have the tops the following Monday (4th March) at TWAC, Tues (5th March) at Reps on the seafront and if anyone needs them at the Tri club swim session (6th March) please let Paul know and he will arrange for them to be there.

Paul also hopes to have size samples of the newly advertised training kit, available for members to purchase, for you to try on. We also hope to have the club shop go live on Thursday 29th but this is still to be confirmed nearer the date.


2024 Championship

Details of the 2024 championship structure and races have previously been announced and are shown on the website under members/2024 Championship.

Unfortunately, there was an announcement this week that the Humdinger has been postponed on the 3/3 but there are hopes to re-schedule later in the year. There is a potential for a replacement race to be confirmed.

The races for March, and April are:

23/3             Berkeley 20-mile      Long Road     (Race now full)

1/4               Shapwick Bunny       Off-Road       (Entries now open)

4/4               Prom Run                Short Road



Session details: ‘Stairway to Heaven – February TWAC fell race’ – meet 6.50 for 7.00pm start at the Brean Down National Trust Overflow car park you will be directed when you arrive. What3words car park location; ///lived.sticky.squirted

Ok this is a beautiful route and a chance to take on the Brean Down steps.

These races are for all abilities and any pace of running. You can do one loop (5k) or take on two laps (10k).

Trail shoes a MUST, Head torch a MUST and any spare ones or batteries.

Appropriate clothing for the weather and warm clothes for finish and Billy Kit.

Twalking Marshals required, and two marshals required to be at the fort plus back runner or runners required please.

Tuesday Reps/Intervals   

There will be two organised reps/interval session this Tuesday 27/2/24 –

Session one

Working on speed and form. FOCUS Arm drive in relationship with leg speed faster the arms the legs will follow.


5min (as 3min steady then 2min with 15secs pickups in each minute)


10 x 30 secs hard 30 secs easy

3min steady pace

5 x 1min hard 1min easy

COOL DOWN – 5 min very easy

All meet at the shelter between the Trop and Revo at 6.50 for 7.00pm start.


The Wednesday swim sessions 20.20 to 21.30 at Burnham-on-Sea pool

Over winter is the ideal time to brush up and develop your swimming technique, ideal prep for next season. Suitable for beginners to seasoned triathletes, injured runners – develop your aerobic capacity and muscles you didn’t know existed

Sessions can be booked in blocks of five (£32.50) or ten (£55.00) ad hoc PAY as you GO (£6.50) sessions occasionally available, for PAYG – please ask if there’s space prior to session

Thursday – Group runs from Hutton Moor at 6.20 for 6.30 start. Again, this week meet in the meeting room on the first floor inside Hutton Moor. The route this week will be the 4 Bridges route.

Saturday 8AM session – See WAC social for confirmation of meeting place and time later in the week.
