Read All About It – Weekly Update 24/3/24. 

 

Weekly forecast 

This week is forecast to be breezy and wet again at times with average temperatures. A moderate to fresh southerly wind will bring showers or longer periods of light rain throughout the week. The forecast shows max 9 to 13 and minimum 4 to 6.

 

Road race results

Saturday saw 11 Weston runners take part in the Berkeley 20-mile Fission race as part of their spring marathon preparation in a field of 455 finishers. Ben Haines was 1st WAC man in 2.04.12, followed by Chris Shergold in 2.18.11 and David Dadds in 2.27.24.

Laura Fricker was 1st WAC runner in 2.20.29 followed by Alice Smith who was 1st V40 in 2.23.24.

 

The same location also saw a half marathon at the same time with Harry Eades completing the 13.1 miles in 1.52.59.

 

Sunday saw the 2024 running of the Weston Super Half. The weather was dry but with a strong westerly breeze all morning. There was a very large turnout of club members at this event today. At least 46 members were amongst the 1418 finishers including 10 members providing excellent pacing services from 1hour 30mins to 2hours 30mins. These runners were supported by a fabulous group manning the water station at Accommodation Rd, Marshals at various points around the course, Race makers giving out medals and so many people just out spectating, encouraging, and taking photos.

 

Susan Duncan finished 3rd lady overall and 2nd V40 in 1.29.11, followed by Hannah Keating 3rd Senior female in 1.33.14 and Katie Gormley in 1.38.21.

Kieron Summers was 1st WAC man, 1st V40 in 8th place overall in 1.21.28, followed by Kevin Bale in 10th overall 3rd V40 in 1.22.34 and Cameron Slater 11th overall in 1.22.35.

 

Sunday saw Toby Norman run the Fleet Half marathon as part of his Helicopter practice for London, flying to a finish in 1.34.33.

Prom run Thursday 4th April. 

Thursday 4th sees the first of the April prom runs the seventh of the 23/24 series. Do not forget there are no entries on the day with online entry closing 9pm Tuesday 2nd April. 

 

AGM date 

The email invite to the club AGM was sent out on Thursday 14/3 for the meeting that will take place on the 11/4/24 at Priory school at 7.00pm. Check in your spam folder if you have not seen the mail yet.

2024 Championship

Details of the 2024 championship structure and races have previously been announced and are shown on the website under members/2024 Championship.

The third club Fell Race of the year, either choose one loop for 5k or two loops for the 10k.

Each loop has 683 feet of elevation gain, muddy flat trails, steep climbs, and technical downhill running.

If you have been given a race number, please turn up with it on and if it is your first race, please collect one on arrival.

Things to bring: Trail shoes, Head torch that works, Charged Head torch (spare batteries)

Tuesday Reps/Intervals   

There will two organised reps/interval sessions this Tuesday 26/3/24 taken by Carol, Nick, or Jim

Session one

Warm up – Followed by

5 x 30 secs accelerating from Z2 -Z5 (easy -hard)

8 x 2min Z4 (hard Rpe 8/9) 60 secs rolling recovery (easy)

Cool down.

Session goal – You will be breathing and working hard aerobically with the aim of improving your speed endurance.

 

Second session

12 x 400m

Both sessions for all abilities

All meet at the shelter between the Trop and Revo at 6.50 for 7.00pm start.

 

The Wednesday swim sessions 20.20 to 21.30 at Burnham-on-Sea pool

Over winter is the ideal time to brush up and develop your swimming technique, ideal prep for next season. Suitable for beginners to seasoned triathletes, injured runners – develop your aerobic capacity and muscles you didn’t know existed

Sessions can be booked in blocks of five (£32.50) or ten (£55.00) ad hoc PAY as you GO (£6.50) sessions occasionally available, for PAYG – please ask if there’s space prior to session

Thursday – Group runs from Hutton Moor at 6.20 for 6.30 start. Meet in the meeting room on the first floor inside Hutton Moor. The route this week will be the 4 Bridges route.
