Read All About It – Weekly Update 23/6/24.

 

Weekly forecast 

The forecast currently shows a continuation of the drier sunnier weather. Monday to Thursday is forecast to have a gentle Westerly breeze giving sunny days with max temperatures 18 to 24 and min 10 to 15. From Thursday the wind is forecast to become moderate from the West still with sun or sunny intervals and light cloud.

 

Road race results

Sunday saw Lindsey Clifford and Phil Brett take part in the Westonbirt 10k. Phil finished in 1.03.38 and Lindsey in 1.29.34. 

 

Off-Road race results

This weekend saw Ben Nicholas and Marc Whiting take on the 30k off road Jurassic coast race from Beer to Exmouth. There are no official results yet, but we know that Marc was first across the finishing line and Ben finished in 5.11.19.

Sunday saw Sarah and Josh Harris take part in the Smugglers  Cutter race at Lands end. This is a half marathon along the coast path from Lands end to St Just at Cape Cornwall and back with 2500ft of climb. No official results yet but Sarah finished in 3.26.

 

Multi Event results

Rachel and Pete Stacey took part in the Chase the Sun event on Saturday. Birthday boy Pete and Rachel rode 204 miles from the Isle of Sheppey to Weston finishing at the Grand Pier. The route climbs 10,000ft in total with them finishing with their group of riders in 16hours 10mins 4secs.

Membership Renewal 1/4/24

Renewal was due by 31/5. The membership list shows that there are still 63 people who were members in the 23/24 period who have yet to renew or let us know they are not renewing. If you wish to remain part of the Weston fb group, you need to renew before the names of everyone who is not a current member are deleted.

 

Club Clothing Shop

The club clothing shop is now open. Please see more detail on the Weston Social fb page and follow the link to Weston Athletics Club Archives – Karuta Sportswear (karuta-sportswear.com) Many of the first orders have now been delivers so lead times to delivery will now be much shorter.

2024 Championship

Details of the 2024 championship structure and races have previously been announced and are shown on the website under members/2024 Championship.

The races for June, July and August are:

28/6             Nailsea(Beer/Banger)Short Road

17/7             Pawlett Plod 10k       Off Road

28/7             Whites 2x2x2           Off Road

14/8             Crook Peak              Off Road

26/8             Baltonsborough 5     Short Road

 

The Whites 2x2x2 event is a club only race. An event has been set up on fb so that you can show your intention to take part to help us with numbers and planning.

 

Mendip Muddle 27/10/24

Entries for the club organised race in October are now open.

 

TWAC 

Evening session for Monday the 24th of June is run 6 in the TWAC club members fell race series, meet 6.50 Crown Inn, Churchill

There will be a 5k or 10k option available including some technical steep downhills in beautiful scenery.

We will need some Twalkers to take up some marshal positions please which will require you to leave slightly earlier than the runners and you will be allocated your position. Please message James if you can help with this, back runner also needed.

Trail shoes an absolute MUST, Appropriate clothing for weather, Billy Kit

YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO REGISTER YOUR CAR IN PUB ON ARRIVAL!!!

James will go to the pub and confirm this, but you will get a ticket if you do not register your car on the night.

Tuesday Reps/Intervals   

On the field at Hutton Moor 

There will be two organised interval sessions this Tuesday 25/6/24 taken by Nick and Jim.

Session 1

Pyramid session.

Working on consistent pacing

1×1 minute effort 30 seconds Rolling Recovery (RR)

2×2 minutes effort 60 seconds RR

2×3 minutes effort 75 seconds RR

4 minutes effort 90 seconds RR

Repeat session starting from 1×1 again.

 

Second session

Working on  improving pace

Warm up

1km progressive

12 x 400m 5 k pace or quicker rpe 7/8 – 90 secs recovery

Cool down – Easy 1km

 

Both sessions for all abilities

 

The Wednesday swim sessions 20.20 to 21.30 at Burnham-on-Sea pool

Over winter is the ideal time to brush up and develop your swimming technique, ideal prep for next season. Suitable for beginners to seasoned triathletes, injured runners – develop your aerobic capacity and muscles you didn’t know existed

Sessions can be booked in blocks of five (£32.50) or ten (£55.00) ad hoc PAY as you GO (£6.50) sessions occasionally available, for PAYG – please ask if there’s space prior to session
