Read All About It – Weekly Update 22/10/23.


We have had 2 club events in the last 4 days with Sheryl Selway being Race Director for them both, they were extremely well organised and received by the runners. Thanks Sheryl from all the members.

 Many thanks too to everybody who has helped with either of the events, these things just could not happen without all your help.  


Weekly forecast

 The weather is forecast to continue unsettled this week with rain most days but some sunny intervals too. A gentle breeze will change to a south westerly moderate breeze with heavier rain on Wednesday. Max temp 14 to 16 and minimum night temps 8 to 11.


Road race results

 Thursday saw the second prom run of the series which featured a remarkably quick run by Ellie Wallace of North Somerset finishing with 2nd fastest lady performance in 3rd overall of 26.43.

First WAC lady was Alice Smith who was 4th lady overall and 1st V40 in 33.05, followed by Phillipa Stephens who was 1st V50 in 35.38, and Georgie Ford in 39.08.

Matt Davies was 1st WAC man in 31.36, followed by Steve Lovell in 31.44, David Dadds in 33.21. Richard Goddard was 2nd V60 in 34.01.


Off-Road race results

 Sunday saw the second of the club organised races that Sheryl Selway is now the Race Director for. A well as the many members who helped we also had 20 runners or so take part. Darren Stacey was 5th overall and 1st WAC man in 1.33.17, followed by James Bertenshaw in 1.45.58 and Steve Lovell in 1.51.54. Sophie Bennett was 1st WAC lady in 2.06.04 followed by Suzanne Walkley in 2.20.43 and Sarah Fielder in 2.28.54. Apologies if we have missed anybody but results do not currently show club.

London Ballot

 The ballot for the one club place was held after the prize giving at the Prom run on Thursday. Congratulation to Lindsey Clifford on being pulled out of the bag.


Championship 2023

A new tab has been added to the website under members/2023 Championship which is a points summary. The latest summary will show the position after the 19/10 Prom run.

A link has been added on the points summary page making it easier for you to find the detailed points position and list of the 2023 championship races.

23/24 Gwent Cross Country detail

You may have seen on WAC Social that the club are offering to pay members entrance fees to any of the events of the 23/24 Gwent series of events.

Chris McMillan is happy to handle the administration of entries as last year so please drop a message to Nia Davies who is collating attendees and to Chris to register you on the Gwent league database.


Prom run 9/11/23.

 The next event of the 23/24 series is 9/11/23. Don’t forget there will be no entry on the night with entries for the 9/11 race closing at 9.00pm on Tuesday the 7th of Nov.

Xmas Cracker volunteers

 Latest news today is that we still need another 20 volunteers to make the race the success that we want so if you have not got your response in yet can you please take a few minutes to get it back to Nicky.



TWAC session this week 23/10/23 is titled ‘A new pub venue’ meet 6.50 Penscot Inn Shipham

This week will be group lead social runs.

A great session for every ability and pace. This session is for everyone, new and old!

 Tuesday Reps/Intervals

Meet 6.50 at the shelter between the Trop and Revo.

The session this week will be a pyramid of 2x100m, 3x200m, 3x300m, 2x400m, and back down.

Focus on form and consistency of pace.

Followed by cool down.


The Wednesday swim sessions 20.20 to 21.30 at Burnham-on-Sea pool

Over winter is the ideal time to brush up and develop your swimming technique, ideal prep for next season. Suitable for beginners to seasoned triathletes, injured runners – develop your aerobic capacity and muscles you didn’t know existed
Sessions can be booked in blocks of five (£32.50) or ten (£55.00) ad hoc PAYG (£6.50) sessions occasionally available, for PAYG – please ask if there’s space prior to session

The next block of sessions start at the beginning of December but attendance before then can be arranged if space available.

You need to be a fully paid-up WAC member to access sessions.

Thursday – Group runs from Hutton Moor. Meet car park at 6.50. Route for 26/10 will be the club circuit.
