Weekly forecast
The short sharp cold spell that was forecast last week has stayed a bit longer than expected and is not now forecast to change until Wednesday of this week. The wind will turn gentle to moderate and variable with day temperatures of 5 to 10 and night temps of -4 to 3. There will be some sunny intervals but mainly light cloud cover is the forecast.
Road race results
Thursday 19th saw the second championship race of the year the January prom run. Chris McMillan continued his winning ways and set another new pb as he raced to victory in 25.15. Kieron Summers was 2nd WAC man in 26.58 and Ben Haines 3rd WAC man in 27.34. Matt Wheeler finished 3rd MV50 in 29.51.
Susan Duncan was 4th lady finisher overall and 1st LV40 in 31.10 followed by Laura Fricker in a new pb of 32.05 and Alice Smith in 32.22. Nia Davies was 1st LV50 in 33.28 with Sian Roberts 2nd LV50 in 37.47.
Off-Road race results
Saturday 21st saw Liza French take part in the Winter Wychavon 40 mile Ultra. This route travels from Droitwich Spa to Broadway in the Cotswolds and climbs 2800ft along the route with a cheeky 1000ft climb between miles 28 and 30. Liza finished 12th lady overall in a time of 9.21.58.
Saturday also saw one of the Channel Events Dark Series races take place the ‘Storm the Fort’ run on Brean Down. There was a 5k and 10k option starting at 6.30pm. 3 WAC runners took part all in the 10k race. Gary Bowden finished in 1.00.20. Kim Mcloughlin in 1.11.56 and Sam Walkley in 1.13.12.
Sunday saw the Slaughterford 9 race take place. This is a 9-mile off-road race with a total climb of 1300ft and a river wade before the last steep hill. Stuart and Helen took part with Helen finishing in 1.36.29. Full results not yet available.

Timed 1-mile time trial Tuesday 31st January
We will be organising a timed 1-mile time trial on Tuesday evening (7pm session) 31st January. Cost will be £2 raising funds for the Liam Shepherd foundation. Please see fb and the fb event for more detail.
National Cross-Country Championships:

Entry closing date: THIS Friday (£11)
Men’s race is 12k.
Women’s race is 8k.
NO ENTRY REQUIREMENTS AND NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. Anyone can enter as long as they are EA affiliated.
I will be driving so anyone wanting to give it a go, is welcome to get a lift with me.

Club Championship 2023
The provisional list of races for the 2023 championship have been loaded onto the website tab on the handicap page. Some of the races have yet to be confirmed and some of the dates are assumed from last year but will be confirmed and updated when known.
The categories will be the same as pre-pandemic and the 5k’s will be any 2 from 6 of the local parkruns (dates to be confirmed later in the year when other races confirmed)The off-road will be your best 4 long and best 4 short off-road races.
The webpage (Races/club championship/view race calendar) has been updated with races for Jan to March also shown there.
Note Salisbury 10 has been removed from the Championship because the race is already full.
The Monday TWAC session this week 23/1/23 will meet at 6.50 at the Webbington Rd off-road car parks for a run on Crook Peak. There will be a 5k loop set out for you to do one or two circuits as you wish. Please see TWAC FB for more detail.
The Wednesday swim sessions at Burnham-on-Sea pool re-started 4/1 with the last night of the existing bookings being this week.
The next block now need to be booked and paid for and payment for the next 10 sessions (starting 1st Feb) becomes due. Numbers limited so please pay a soon as you can to reserve your place.
Wednesday evenings 20:20 – 21:30 Burnham on Sea pool. £55 for 10 sessions (£32.50 for 5 if work takes you away).

We now have the January code for the 10% discount and free postage on orders from Sportsshoes (min order value £50). This code is on the WAC members social fb page for WAC member use only. Please ask Jim, Helen, or Julia if you do not access to fb and wish to put in an order with them.
We currently have a full set of the yellow club kit sizes available. New members can pick up their kit after training on Tuesday night at the seafront. Come along at about 6.50 or 7.45/8.00 and find Jim Wotton. If you cannot get to the seafront let Chris Loach or Jim Wotton know and we will see what we can do. Ladies kit comes in sizes 8, 10, 12 etc.

Thursday – Group runs from Hutton Moor – meet car park 6.50. This week club circuit.
Saturday AM session – 8.00am Meet point TBC session to be taken by Jason – suitable for all abilities
