Weekly forecast 

This week is forecast to be unsettled again and feeling cool for the end of April. Starting with variable light to gentle winds the wind will turn to come from the South and pick up to be moderate to fresh by next weekend. Rain is promised at some point every day apart from Wednesday, max temperatures 10 to 13 with min 4 to 8.

 

Road race results

Thursday saw the second of the April Prom Runs, the eighth  of the 23/24 series. It was a windy night but that did not stop 41 club members taking part, many of them in their final taper before the London Marathon. Ben Haines was the 1st WAC runner and 1st V40 in 28.14 followed by Chris Selman as 2nd V40 in 28.38 and Julian Forbes as 4th V40 in 29.03. Rich Goddard was 1st V60 in 33.01

Hannah Keating was 1st WAC lady in 34.35, followed by Pip Stephens who was 1st V50 in 35.28 and Alice Smith in 37.13. Julie Bailiss was 3rd V50 in 39.03.

Well-done and congratulations to the 17 club members who ran the London marathon on Sunday 21st and to the army of club members who went to London to support everyone. So many stories to be told about each runner’s efforts but the times were:

Laura Fricker was 1st WAC lady in a new pb of 3.01.48, followed by Alice Smith with her 2nd fastest ever in 3.02.03, Susan Duncan in 3.13.05, Bex Vaughan in 4.04.42, Maddy Cook in 4.59.13, Ann Clutterbuck in a new pb of 5.15.58, Nicky Baker in a new pb of 5.21.19, Wendy Wilfan in a new pb of 5.28.24, Lucy Solomon in 5.46 and Lindsey Clifford in 6.57.34.

Darren Stacey was 1st WAC man in 2.52.35 followed by Rob Mountford in 2.54.09, David Dadds in a new pb of 3.14.14, Stuart Diamond in 3.23.13, Simon Hall in new pb of 3.24.05, Toby Norman in 3.34.27 (Possible Guiness record), and Jeremy Chappell in a new pb of 5.00.11.

 

 

Sunday also saw Harry Eades run the Horton Spring Bull run, a race of 4.1 miles and finished in a time of 31.19.

  

 

Off-Road race results 

Saturday Baz Hall and Caz Holt each take on a Total Coastal event finishing at Shaldon in Devon. Baz completed the 32 mile ultra starting at Kingswear and travelling via Brixham, Paignton and Torquay to Shaldon with 7000ft of climb finishing in 8.36.02. Caz did the Paignton to Shaldon half with 4000ft of climb finishing in 4.01.

Membership Renewal 1/4/24

Thank you to the 170 plus members who have already taken the time to renew their 24/25 membership. Please try to find time to do this when you can, it takes much less admin time for our membership secretary when the process is all completed as quickly as possible.

Details of the 2024 championship structure and races have previously been announced and are shown on the website under members/2024 Championship.

TWAC 

The TWAC session on Monday 22nd of April is ‘One Peak Two Loops’

Meeting 18.50 at – Webbington Rd car park

There will be one short but challenging loop and one less challenging but longer loop around Crook Peak
Your choice of loop and pace.
Perfect for every pace and ideal if you are starting back after a winter break.

Tuesday Reps/Intervals  still on the seafront this week (23/4/24)

There will be two organised reps/interval sessions this Tuesday 23/4/24 taken by Nick and  Jim.

Focus – Don’t be a slave to the tech – Run to feel.

Session

Warm up 5 mins progressive

10 x3 min hard  pace / 1 min recovery easy pace

Cool down.

5 mins easy pace

At the end of sessions reflect on how your body feels when working hard. And compare it to your watch efforts.

Both sessions for all abilities

All meet at the shelter between the Trop and Revo at 6.50 for 7.00pm start.

 

The Wednesday swim sessions 20.20 to 21.30 at Burnham-on-Sea pool

Over winter is the ideal time to brush up and develop your swimming technique, ideal prep for next season. Suitable for beginners to seasoned triathletes, injured runners – develop your aerobic capacity and muscles you didn’t know existed

Sessions can be booked in blocks of five (£32.50) or ten (£55.00) ad hoc PAY as you GO (£6.50) sessions occasionally available, for PAYG – please ask if there’s space prior to session
