Weekly forecast

Spring seems to have arrived and the weather this weekend was almost ideal for everybody out running and racing. We are promised that the weather will remain fine and sunny all week with temperatures rising too from Tuesday. Max temps 17 to 19, minimums 1 to 6, with gentle to moderate winds from the east.

The last 3 weeks or so has seen many club members catch the virus. Some people have had only mild symptoms, but others have suffered a bit more and have had their racing/training impacted. We hope everybody recovers quickly and soon gets back to full health.

Road race results

Not a race but certainly worthy a mention was the culmination on Saturday morning of the 5k targeted training. 15 or so WAC members put their training to the test on the Wick 5k TT course. The sessions had been organised by Coach Sheryl and extremely well supported by 5 or 6 club members with pacing help both on the Saturday time trial session and throughout the training weeks. Congratulations to everybody on the times that were achieved.

A new program will start shortly aimed at a June 10K and will be suitable for all members. Watch out for more detail on the Weston social fb for more detail of the sessions.

Lindsey Clifford travelled to Merthyr on Sunday and completed the half marathon.

This week’s report from Rachel Stacey

Margaret Sills, Pete & I lined up for the Lanzarote Half Ironman. It was their 10th anniversary, but this year they moved the course to the south of the island, taking in part of the more difficult full course. The swim is 1.9km in open sea water. The hilly bike ride is 90.1km with total ascent of 3894ft. The rolling run is 21km with 597ft of ascent. Out of 1,127 on the start list only 831 completed the tough conditions.

Pete completed first in 7hrs 45m. I came in with 8hrs 10 mins. Margaret did an amazing swim, in 49mins, the bike in 4:46, and 15.9 km of the run but took the right decision to call it a day.

The legend here was Margaret. After a week of being the swim trainer with the Serpentine Tri club, at Club La Santa, she was the only lady in her age group to take on this challenge. Simply the best!!

Membership Renewal 1/4/22

Results of the London Ballot (Oct 22) are now out and congratulations to anybody who has a ballot place. Unfortunately, due to the high volume of entries held over from previous years it does not look as though we will be getting any club places from EA for the Oct 22 race. Please hold on to your ‘sorry’ mails/letters until we get confirmation of this just in case.

Club and EA memberships are due 1/4/22. The club membership fees will be £20 (or £10 social) as before but the EA fee is increasing to £16 this year. The new EA fee does not apply to any new members until 1/4/22 so the changes have not yet been applied. Please wait until after the 1/4/22 to make your renewal when the new figure will be in place. A message from the club membership secretary will be sent explaining this and may be in your spam folder if you do not see it.

WAC social members will have seen that WAC are supporting Health Trainers from North Somerset by starting a Couch to 5k for people who find it hard to make evening sessions. The first session takes place on Monday the 28th of March at 9.15am in Clarence Park.

Please pass the information on to anybody who may be interested and ask them to call Kira on 01934 627014 or 07882 474 692 to get more information or book a place
