Weekly forecast
The forecast for this week shows that we are in for a continuation of the cooler weather with strong winds and thundery showers on Monday and Tuesday. From Wednesday to Sunday, it should be dry with sunny intervals getting warmer from Friday onwards. The wind will continue to be Westerly strong on Monday and Tuesday before being moderate to fresh fo the remainder of the week. This will give max temperature of 18 to 23 with night min of 11 to 14 degrees.
Road race results
Thursday the 29th of June saw the Thornbury 10k which was the first championship race of the week. Laura Fricker was 2nd lady overall in 40.42 followed by Harry Eades in 48.12, Rob Osment in 48.56 and Colin Lintern in 59.59.
Due to the change in date of the club favourite Nailsea 10k (Beer and Banger) the race followed just the next day on Friday the 30th of June. Will Fuller won the race in a time of 33.37, followed by Darren Stacey in 2nd place in 35.43 and Rob Mountford in 5th overall in 37.04. Charlotte Fuller was 1st WAC lady in 47.17, followed by Sian Roberts who was 1st V50 in 47.42 and Hannah Moor in 48.49. Rachael Vincent was 2nd V60 in 51.12
Off-Road race results
Saturday 1st of July saw the second championship race of the week the Charmouth Challenge.
This race is 8 miles with 1650 feet of climb and runs inland up Stonebarrow Hill before working across the fields to the climb up Golden Cap which at over 600ft is the highest point on the south coast. The climb is followed by a scenic 4-mile run back along the coast path to Charmouth beach.
Chris Shergold was 1st WAC man and 4th MV40 in 1.03.58 followed by Mark Bowskill in 1.17.17, and Rob Osment in 1.24.27. Sheryl Selway was 1st WAC lady in 1.26.49, followed by Maria Davidson in 1.30.36, and Vanessa Andrews in 1.46.36.
Sunday the 2nd saw Steve Lovell complete the Ham to Lyme race organised by Albion Running. Steve finished the 50k run in 5hrs 40 mins.
Sunday also saw another of the Somerset series races the Quantock Beast take place. This race climbs over 900ft in the 6.2-mile route. Hannah Keating was 2nd lady in 53.31 and Chris Selman 4th man in 45.26. Debbie Brooks and Paul Snelling also ran but there are no results out yet.
Sunday saw the 2023 half marathon race on Lundy Island. Regular visitors Sarah and Josh Harris both took part again with Sarah finishing the 13.2-mile race in 2.57.46

Summer Social
The first summer social will take place Thursday 6th July. Meet Uphill boatyard at 6.50 for a social group run before retiring to the Ship Inn afterwards for Chips. See detail on WAC Social fb to show that you intend to come along or drop a mail or message to Jim Wotton or Georgie Ford.

A new tab has been added to the website under members/2023 Championship which shows a points summary. The latest summary shows the position after Clevedon, latest results will be updated shortly.
A link has been added on the points summary page making it easier for you to find the detailed points position and list of the 2023 championship races.

Under 18’s Athletics opportunity
If you or a friend have children who would like to get involved in athletics, then North Somerset Athletic Club are recruiting young athletes Year 4+ to join their successful club. They have a session locally on Wednesdays @ Priory School, WSM 6.30pm – 7.30pm and there are currently spaces available.
The usual mix of sprints, jumps, throws, hurdles, relays, and associated games. A great introduction to our exciting sport

TWAC
The Monday evening TWAC session this week 3/7/23 is titled ‘A Band of Crooks’ Meet 6.50 at the off-road car parks on Webbington Rd. Session will be warm up, to the top of the Peak followed by a session of looped runs around the Peak. – see TWAC fb for more detail.
Tuesday intervals this week will have 2 sessions. Both sessions are suitable for all abilities so choose which you prefer.
The session on the field at Hutton Moor will be taken by Carol, Nick or Jim and will be 10 x 2mins 30 secs with 70 secs roll on recovery.
Sheryl will be taking a hill rep session named ‘Christon Plantation reps’ Meet 6.50 at Viewpoint on Roman Rd, Bleadon. (Off-road shoes suggested)
The Wednesday swim sessions at Burnham-on-Sea pool re-started 12/4
The next block of Wednesday swim sessions at Burnham-on-Sea pool now need to be booked and paid for and payment for the next 10 sessions, started 14th June, becomes due. Numbers limited so please pay as soon as you can to reserve your place.
Wednesday evenings 20:20 – 21:30 Burnham on Sea pool. £55 for 10 sessions (£32.50 for 5 if work takes you away).

We now have the July code for the 10% discount and free postage on orders from Sportsshoes (min order value £50). This code is on the WAC members social fb page for WAC member use only. Please ask Jim, Helen, or Julia if you do not access to fb and wish to put in an order with them. (NB Now includes Brooks shoes again)
We currently have yellow club kit available in most sizes. New members can pick up their kit at training on Tuesday night at Hutton Moor. Come along at about 6.50 or 7.45/8.00 and find Jim Wotton. If you cannot get to Hutton Moor let Paul Cousins or Jim Wotton know and we will see what we can do. Ladies kit comes in sizes 8, 10, 12 etc.
