Weekly forecast
The forecast shows the weather being mainly settled with light cloud and a band of rain currently Thursday pm and Friday am. The wind will be gentle increasing to moderate and change from a westerly to a northerly later with max. temperatures 17 to 19. Night temperatures will range from 8 to 12.
Road race results
Wednesday saw Sheryl Selway and Louise Davison take part in the Yeovilton 5k and both achieve Pb’s. Louise finished 1st V35 in 21.36 and Sheryl in 23.04.
Thursday saw the first prom race of the 22/23 series. There was a great turnout of Weston runners some of whom were tapering for the Oldbury 10 mile on Sunday and London marathon in 2 weeks, but it did not stop some splendid results. Ben Haines was 1st WAC man in 27.26 for 5th place and 1st V40, Cameron Slater was 2nd WAC man in 28.09 and Chris McMillan 3rd WAC man in 28.11.
Alice Smith was 1st WAC lady in 31.08 and 2nd SF, Laura Fricker was 2nd WAC lady in a new pb of 32.31 with Nia Davies 3rd WAC lady and 1st V50 in 34.39. Sian Roberts was 3rd V50 in 38.33 and Margaret Sills 1st V70 in 58.04
Saturday saw 5 WAC runners take part in a new event organised by Relish Running a 10k road race down Cheddar Gorge on closed roads. The total drop is over 700ft, and it is all down-hill from about 1.5 miles in. Kev Bale was 6th overall in 34.31, Clare Harvey 2nd V40 in 46.57, Emma Lane 46.57, Jo Thurlby 3rd V40 in 47.09 and Julie Monaghan in 57.13.
Sunday saw the Oldbury 10-mile race which doubles up as the Avon 10-mile Championships. Chris McMillan won the race overall in new pb of 52.34 to also take the Avon title. Kieron Summers was 5th overall in 55.41 and Avon 1st V40, Ian Connock finished in 59.12, Bill Green in a new pb 68.34 and 3rd V50 and Jim Wotton in 84.09.
Nia Davies finished 1st WAC lady in 69.37 and wins the Avon V50 title, Sam Buzza finished 2nd WAC lady in 80.02 and Shaleen Summers 3rd WAC lady in 94.04

Multi Event results
Sunday saw Kirsty Dearing and Victoria Collins take part in the Break the cycle event that travels from Weston to Chepstow via the old Severn bridge and back again. They finished the 40-mile route in 3.31

Tuesday night training will return to the seafront from this week 20/9 – Meet between the Tropicana and Revo at 6.50 for 7.00
This week’s Rep/interval session on Tuesday the 20TH of September meet 6.50 for 7:00 on the seafront. Sheryl, Carol, Nick, Jason, and Jim will take the sessions.
Session suitable for all abilities.
Congratulations to Race Directors Sheryl and Sarah plus everybody who helped to get the first events of the Prom series away so successfully on Thursday.
The tide times, SEE MONSTER and the Enduro on the seafront conspire together to mean we will not be able to have a race in October this year. There will be 2 races in November the first on the 3rd of Nov and the second on the original planned date of the 17th.
If you have entered the series, you do not need to take any action If you intend to enter one or both November races make sure you enter the correct one. Series entry is still available and will still be cheaper if you intend to race another 7 of the remaining races
Closing date for both dates will be 9.00pm on the Tuesday before the race.
Thursday sees the next Georgie organised social event titled (Nut Tree Natter) from the pub in Ebdon road. Thursday runs will all start from the pub meeting at 6.50 for 7.00 with various groups organised of different pace and distances before returning to the pub for the Natter. There is still time for friends and family to sign up for the 2022 Xmas Cracker training group. There is more detail about the 10-week beginners’ course on the website and WAC fb pages. The first meeting is planned for Monday the 26th of Sept at Priory School. Paul Baker is the initial contact for all enquiries so please inform anybody showing an interest in running that now is the time to contact him.
Adrian Noble will be helping Katie Gormley obtain volunteers to help with the Mendip Muddle on the 16/10/22. If Adrain has not already asked you and you are available to help please drop Adrain or Katie a message.
Championship 2022
There will now be 2 prom races in November with the first race on the 3rd of Nov.
The latest points position after the race 18/9 will be on the website shortly.
(Please find this by looking at the website/races/handicap races and clicking on handicap results 2021 202. Then look at the tabs along the bottom of the sheet for 22 championship and marathon 22 results)
N.B. The result sheet currently shows your points total for all the championship races that you have run in 2022. This means if you have already run all 6 of the prom runs so far in 2022 or all 4 half marathons your lowest scoring runs will not count to your overall counting total as only your best 4 prom, 2 half scores etc. will count. Scores will be calculated to show just your points from the max number of scoring races as the year continues.
September and October is a busy time for the Championship so here is a reminder:
25/9 Bristol Half Road 13.1 miles
9/10 Keynsham Dandy Off-road 12.5 miles
15/10 Burnham parkrun Road 3.1 miles
30/10 Herepath half Off-road 13.1 miles
The Monday TWAC session 19/9 will be a morning session and meet at 6.50 AM at the Burrington Inn car park. The session will be a trail group run – See TWAC fb group for full detail and W3W address.
The Wednesday swim sessions at Burnham-on-Sea pool re-started 14/9. The sessions need to be booked and paid for – please email Margaret and Charlotte at westonacmultisports@gmail.com

Swim training has started again on Wednesdays. Pool side 20:20 – swim till 21:30. Burnham on Sea pool. Spaces available at the moment. Welcome to those who are joining us for the first time and welcome back to those who have been regulars. If you are intending to come, please pay (£55 block of 10 sessions or £32:50 for 5 used within the block of 10 if space – so please book your days with me asap). If you do not have the payment details, please DM me. Any questions- below or DM.
Saturday sessions 8.00am – These sessions are suitable for all abilities. Details of the session for the 24/9 will follow shortly
We now have the September code for the 10% discount and free postage on orders from Sportsshoes (min order value £30). This code is on the WAC members social fb page for WAC member use only. Please ask Jim, Helen, or Julia if you do not access to fb and wish to put in an order with them.
We currently have a full set of the yellow club kit sizes available. New members can pick up their kit after training on Tuesday night at the seafront. Come along at about 6.50 or 7.45/8.00 and find Jim Wotton. If you cannot get to the seafront let Chris Loach or Jim Wotton know and we will see what we can do. Ladies kit comes in sizes 8, 10, 12 etc.
