Weekly forecast 

The forecast for this week is cooler and more unsettled with moderate to fresh westerly winds. There will be showers and longer periods of rain on Thursday and Friday with a few sunny intervals, max temperatures 18 to 21 and min temperatures 11 to 15.

 

Road race results

On Sunday 18th Ben Nicholas took part in the Bath 2 tunnels 50k Ultra. The Ultra consists of 5 x 10k loops of a hilly course with Approx. 1500ft of climb in total. Ben finished the 50k run in 5 hrs 34 mins 17 secs.

 

Off-Road race results

Wednesday the 14th saw the Crook Peak cake race which was one of the championship races. The race is organised by Will Robins with all proceeds going to charity, for many years WAC have helped with the finish organisation so thanks again to everybody who came along to help. There were 129 entrants this year with over £1000 being raised for the 2 charities supported. Bill Green was 1st WAC man in 26.55 followed by John Davidson in 30.43, Rob Osment in 31.54, Liz Green 1st V70 in 38.08 and Steve Hale in 41.57.

2024 Championship

Details of the 2024 championship structure and races have previously been announced and are shown on the website under members/2024 Championship.

The races for August and September are:

26/8             Baltonsborough 5     Short Road

1/9               Bridgwater              Long Road

 

Prom Run and Muddle are open for entries

The Prom run and Junior prom runs together with the Mendip Muddle are all open for entry on Race Nation website. Links to the entries are also via the WAC website for the series and single race entry for both the 5-mile and junior runs.

The first prom runs are on the 12/9 this year so only 3 weeks on Thursday.

 

TWAC 

Evening session for Monday the 19th of August is ‘Death Valley Sunset Social’.

Meet Cider Barn Draycott 6.50pm

A long-waited return to the Cider Barn and Death Valley!!!

No Hill repeats this time though, just a world famous TWAC group social run.

Twalking available for a stunning walk.

We will split up into 3/4 groups and do an epic loop which has everything!

All run paces welcome and based around being out for 90 minutes and sticking together in the different paced groups.

Trail shoes required, appropriate clothing for weather, Billy kit, cider tokens and cigars.

 

PLEASE WEAR BRIGHT COLOURFUL CLOTHES AS THERES A SECTIONS OF RUNNING ON QUIET COUNTRY ROADS

Tuesday Reps/Intervals   

This week 20/8 with there will 2 effort sessions taken by Nick and Jim.

First session on Hutton Moor Field

Warm up – 4 min steady then 5x30secs accelerating pace/with 30 secs easy

Main set

12 x 1min hard Rpe 8/9 / 1min easy Rpe 4/5 rolling

Cool down – 4min easy

 

Second session

Meet at Hutton Moor just before the entrance to the field at 6.50 pm then warm up to Ashcombe Park

Reps/Hills repeat combo

Approx 30 mins of effort

 

Wednesday Swimming

The Wednesday swim sessions at Burnham-on-Sea pool are currently taking the summer break and will start again 4/9/24.

Update on 15/8/24
The Wednesday night swims in Burnham starting 4/9/24 are now full so a waiting list is in operation. Please message Margaret before transferring any £££. There are limited spaces left for the last 5 sessions. Priority will be given to those who have booked for the first 5 and wish to extend for the full 10. The next payment block of 10 starts on Wed 13 November 2024

The sessions are suitable for beginners to seasoned triathletes, injured runners – develop your aerobic capacity and muscles you didn’t know existed

Sessions starting from 4/9 can be booked now in blocks of five (£32.50) or ten (£55.00) ad hoc PAY as you GO (£6.50) sessions occasionally available, for PAYG – please ask if there’s space prior to session
