Read All About It – Weekly Update 17/3/24. 

 

Weekly forecast 

This week starts with gentle westerly winds on Monday and Tuesday followed by a change to moderate then fresh westerly from Thursday onwards. Monday is forecast dry but then forecast light rain at some point every day with sunny intervals at times. The forecast shows max 11 to 14 and minimum 4 to 10.

 

Road race results

Sunday saw Steve Lovell run the Great Welsh marathon. There were yellow wind warnings on that exposed part of the coast giving a strong headwind on the return leg but not slowing Steve down too much as he finished 24th overall in 3.01.14.

 

More marathoners took part in the Rome marathon on Sunday. Liza French and Jeremy Chappell finishing together in 5.14.17.

 

Sunday saw the Bath half marathon with 6 WAC runners taking part. Susan Duncan was 1st WAC lady in 1.27.48 and 4th V40, followed by Nia Davies in 1.34.42 and Shan McCarthy in 2.00.21. Ben Haines was 1st WAC man in 1.17.01 and 7th V45 followed closely by Kieron Summers in 1.17.26 for 8th V45 and Mark Rush in 1.28.29

 

Sunday also saw 2 WAC runners take part along with a field of over 1000 in the Weymouth half marathon. Steph Shute finished in 2.18.07 followed by Wendy Wilfan in 2.20.38.

 

Off-Road race results 

Sunday saw 20 WAC runners take part in the Cheddar runners ‘Big Cheese’ 15 miles and 2300ft of climb with 90%+ of the course off road and following the rain on Saturday night plenty of challenging water splashes and mud baths were included too. Katie Gormley was 5th lady overall and 1st V35 in 2.25.58, followed by Yvonne Rogers in 2.44.18 and Bex Vaughan in 2.46.20. Andrew Popham was 1st WAC man in 2.20.23, followed by Jack Van Veen in 2.28.52 and Ian Regan in 2.33.40

 

Sunday also saw 2 WAC runners take part in the ever-popular Axe Valley Grizzly. 20 miles and 3300ft of climb with hills, bogs, the shingle beaches and finally the Stairway to Heaven to conquer. Toby Norman ran an excellent race to finish 36th overall in what is always a strong field finishing in 2.53.44 with Sarah Weare finishing in 5.22.53.

 

Long standing club members Caz Holt and Barry Hall took part in the Pasty and Pie marathon in Littlehampton which consisted of loops of a 5.3k course. Caz finished in 5.39.52 making it her 50th completed marathon. Baz finished in 4.42.45.

Weston Half marathon 

Next Sunday 24th March sees the Weston half marathon taking place with a 9.00am start. At the time of writing, they are still taking entries.

 

AGM date 

The email invite to the club AGM was sent out on Thursday 14/3 for the meeting that will take place on the 11/4/24 at Priory school at 7.00pm. Check in your spam folder if you have note seen the mail yet.

2024 Championship

Details of the 2024 championship structure and races have previously been announced and are shown on the website under members/2024 Championship.

The dates for a number of races have now been confirmed as: Clevedon 10k 11/6, Nailsea Beer and Banger 28/6, Yeovilton 5k 10/7, Herepath half 3/11.

The races for March, and April are:

23/3             Berkeley 20-mile      Long Road     (Race now full)

1/4               Shapwick Bunny       Off-Road       (Entries now open)

4/4               Prom Run                Short Road

 

 

TWAC

Session details: Group runs to the Trig from the Crown Inn, Skinners Lane, Churchill BS25 5PP – 6:50pm for a 7pm start.

All paces and Twalkers welcome!

We have lots of fabulous leaders so we will split into small groups and head to the Trig & back (estimated approx. 6/ 7 miles depending on which group you are in).!

What do you need:

1) Trail shoes
2) Appropriate clothing for the weather
3) Head torch (fully charged or spare batteries)
4) Billy kit as YOU WILL get wet & muddy!

Session one

Effort.                 Rolling recovery

1 x 1 minute.      30 seconds

2 x 2 minutes.    1 minute

2 x 3 minutes.    90 seconds

2 x 4 minutes.    2 min

Then back down, 2 x 3, 2 x 2, 1 x 1

 

Possible second session, 6 x 800 on Broadoak cycle path

Both sessions for all abilitiesll meet at the shelter between the Trop and Revo at 6.50 for 7.00pm start.

 

 

The Wednesday swim sessions 20.20 to 21.30 at Burnham-on-Sea pool

Over winter is the ideal time to brush up and develop your swimming technique, ideal prep for next season. Suitable for beginners to seasoned triathletes, injured runners – develop your aerobic capacity and muscles you didn’t know existed

Sessions can be booked in blocks of five (£32.50) or ten (£55.00) ad hoc PAY as you GO (£6.50) sessions occasionally available, for PAYG – please ask if there’s space prior to session

Thursday – Group runs from Hutton Moor at 6.20 for 6.30 start. Meet in the meeting room on the first floor inside Hutton Moor. The route this week will be the Fartlek route.

 

Saturday 8AM session – See WAC social for confirmation of meeting place and time later in the week.
