Weekly forecast 

The forecast currently shows a drier, sunnier, and warmer week for us to enjoy. Monday to Thursday is forecast to have a variable gentle breeze giving sunny days with max temperatures 18 to 20 and min 9 to 13. From Thursday the wind is forecast to become moderate from the west still with sun or sunny intervals and light cloud.

 

Road race results

Sunday saw Katie Gormley, Sheryl Selway and Louise Davison run the Martock 10k. There are no results available yet for official times or positions, but Strava times are Katie 46.21, Lou 48.53, and Sheryl 49.56.

 

Sunday saw Georgie Pink run the Half marathon at the Cheltenham running festival. The route was a 4 lap 5k loop around the tarmac and gravel paths surrounding the famous Prestbury racecourse. Georgie finished 3rd V35 in a time of 1.47.56.   

 

Off-Road race results

This weekend saw the White Star Giants Head festival.

12 WAC members ran the Giants Head off-road marathon on Saturday which climbs over 3300ft in its 26.2 miles. Josh Harris was 1st WAC runner finishing in 4.27.04, followed by Jack Van Veen and Paul Cousins in 5.10.34, Sophie Bennett and Kevin Bale in 5.14.48, Melissa Trego and Emma Lane in 5.34.23, Barry Hall in 6.12.24, Sue Dyer and Sarah White in 6.20.03 and Caroline Holt and Sarah Harris in 7.01.40.

Sunday saw the Giants Head half marathon with Astrid Noordermeer 1st WAC runner in 2.36.57 followed by Ann Clutterbuck in 3.22.19, Phil Brett in 3.28.45 and Tracey Dyer in 3.40.13.

5 WAC members took part in the Giants Head 5k Bell race on Sunday, but no results are available. (4 of them after completed the marathon yesterday)

 

Steve Lovell has been running the Scilly 60k ultramarathon today. This unique race covers every stretch of coast path on the  5 islands that make up the route with competitors moving between islands by ferry. There is only 1 ferry so if you miss the cut-off to take the ferry to the next island you are left behind. No detail of how Steve has got on yet.

 

Multi Event results

3 WAC members took part in a full Ironman in Austria today with the 2.4mile open water swim, 112mile undulating bike, and 26.2mile run. The efforts of all three have been followed since they started from 6.30 this morning by many of the club members willing them on to finish. Steve Delve was first to finish in a time of 13.11.36, followed by Louisa Derrick in 13.45.41, and Sarah Weare in 14.27.23.

Membership Renewal 1/4/24

Renewal was due by 31/5. The membership list shows that there are still 66 people who were members in the 23/24 period who have yet to renew or let us know they are not renewing.

 

Weston AC Social Facebook Group members review 

With the membership renewal period finishing we will shortly review the membership of the Weston AC social group leaving only current club members active. If you wish to remain part of the Weston fb group, you need to renew before the names of everyone who is not a current member are deleted.

 

Club Clothing Shop

The club clothing shop is now open. Please see more detail on the Weston Social fb page and follow the link to Weston Athletics Club Archives – Karuta Sportswear (karuta-sportswear.com) Many of the first orders have now been delivers so lead times to delivery will now be much shorter.

 

2024 Championship

Details of the 2024 championship structure and races have previously been announced and are shown on the website under members/2024 Championship.

The races for June, July and August are:

TWAC

Evening session for Monday the 17th of June is ‘Clevedon Social run and Dip’.

Meet- 6:50pm for 7pm start Clevedon Marine Lake.

Our world-famous social run and dip together at the amazing Clevedon Marine Lake.

All run paces welcome and based on 90 minutes out.

Twalkers welcome to please say if you want to as Keith is away.

Things to bring : Trail shoes, appropriate clothing for weather, swim kit, change of clothing, towel, camping chair, post drink.

Tuesday Reps/Intervals   

On the field at Hutton Moor 

There will be two organised interval sessions this Tuesday 10/6/24 taken by Nick and Jim.

This week’s session focus : Do not be a slave to the tech run to feel.

Session 1

Warm up 5 mins progressive

10 x3 min hard pace (1 min recovery easy pace)

Cool down 5 mins easy pace

End of session

Reflect on how your body feels when working hard and compare it to your watch efforts.

The Wednesday swim sessions 20.20 to 21.30 at Burnham-on-Sea pool

Over winter is the ideal time to brush up and develop your swimming technique, ideal prep for next season. Suitable for beginners to seasoned triathletes, injured runners – develop your aerobic capacity and muscles you didn’t know existed

Sessions can be booked in blocks of five (£32.50) or ten (£55.00) ad hoc PAY as you GO (£6.50) sessions occasionally available, for PAYG – please ask if there’s space prior to session
