Weekly forecast

The weather is forecast to turn more unsettled this week with a gentle to moderate Easterly wind bringing rain for a time each day but sunny intervals at times too. Max temp 12 to 17 and minimum night temps 7 to 13.

 

Road race results

 Sunday saw 2 half marathons and the Great South 10-mile run attended by WAC members.

 

Rachel Stacey took on the Great South race in Portsmouth raising over £500 for the Parkinson’s charity and finishing in 1.28.25.

 

The Bath half saw 8 WAC members take part this year with Ben Haines being 1st WAC man to finish in 1.25.29 followed by Steve Kibblewhite in 1.29.44 and Simon Dury in 1.35.02. Alice Smith finished in 1.30.03 having taken a wrong turn during the first lap of the race, followed by Julie Bailiss in 1.49.42 and Chantelle Thompson in 1.56.14.

 

The second half of the weekend saw Paul Baker finish the Oxford half in 1.37.19 followed by Yvonne Rogers in 1.49.23 and Nicky Baker in 2.23.36

 

Off-Road race results

 Saturday saw Emma Barker take part in the first event of the Gwent cross country league at Pembrey park. Emma finished 83rd out of 143 in her age category over the 7.15k course in 40.29.

 

Saturday also saw Kim Sims travel to East Anglia to take part in the Weaver Way Ultra 50k organised by Boghopper races. Results are not yet out but Kim finished in a running time for 7 hours 25 minutes.

London Ballot

 The ballot for the one club place in the 2024 London Marathon will take place at the Prom run this Thursday on the 19/10/23. So far, the names that are entered are: Andy Pitts, Rob Robertson, Kirsty Dearing, Kate Wilson, Paul Baker, Phil Brett, Lindsey Clifford, Rachel Stacey, Dawn Kinghorn, Sarah Weare, Sue Dyer, Kate Rossiter, David Dadds, Steph Shute, Gary Bowden, Sam Hawkins, John Davidson, Rob Osment, Cam Slater, and Steve Delve. If you think your name is missing, please let us know by 9.00pm Tuesday 17th of Oct.

 

Championship 2023

A new tab has been added to the website under members/2023 Championship which is a points summary. The latest summary will show the position after the Burnham half marathon.

A link has been added on the points summary page making it easier for you to find the detailed points position and list of the 2023 championship races.

23/24 Gwent Cross Country detail

You may have seen on WAC Social that the club are offering to pay members entrance fees to any of the events of the 23/24 Gwent series of events.

 

Chris McMillan is happy to handle the administration of entries as last year so please drop a message to Nia Davies who is collating attendees and to Chris to register you on the Gwent league database.

 

 

Prom run 19/10/23.

 The next event of the 23/24 series is now only 4 days away. Don’t forget there will be no entry on the night with entries for the 19/10 race closing at 9.00pm on Tuesday the 17th of Oct.

 

Xmas Cracker volunteer survey

 Thank you for all the responses that have so far been sent to Nicky Baker. The race relies on all club members volunteering to help on the day so if you have not got your response in yet can you please take a few minutes to get it back to Nicky as we still have many roles that need to be filled on the 10th of December.

 

 

TWAC

TWAC session this week 16/10/23 is titled ‘Strawberry Delight’ meet 6.50 Woodborough Inn, 2 Sanford Road, Winscombe, BS25 1HD. The car park opposite will have spaces too.

Group lead runs along Strawberry Line to the Mendips.

A great session for every ability and pace. This session is for everyone, new and old!

 

Tuesday Reps/Intervals

Meet 6.50 at the shelter between the Trop and Revo.

The session this week will be continuing the focus on speed work and following warm up will be 12 x 400m with 90 secs recovery.

Followed by Cool down.

 

 

The Wednesday swim sessions 20.20 to 21.30 at Burnham-on-Sea pool

Over winter is the ideal time to brush up and develop your swimming technique, ideal prep for next season. Suitable for beginners to seasoned triathletes, injured runners – develop your aerobic capacity and muscles you didn’t know existed

Sessions can be booked in blocks of five (£32.50) or ten (£55.00) ad hoc PAYG (£6.50) sessions occasionally available, for PAYG – please ask if there’s space prior to session

The next block of sessions start at the beginning of December but attendance before then can be arranged if space available.

You need to be a fully paid-up WAC member to access sessions.
