Read All About It – Weekly Update 12/11/23.

Weekly forecast

Yet again this week the weather is forecast to continue very unsettled with rain every day, sometimes showers and sometimes longer periods of rain. A moderate westerly will change to fresh for Monday morning with gusts of up to 50mph before returning to moderate for the rest of the week. Max temperature 11 to 14 and minimum night temperatures 6 to 11.

Road race results

Thursday saw the November Prom run. The weather was very wet at times and windy but that did not stop us having twenty finishers in the 2 junior races and 191 in the 5-mile race. The Icescape being back for the first time since the pandemic meant we were using the 3-lap course and thank you to everybody who helped in any way to make the race go so well in such weather. Darren Stacey was third overall and 1st V40 in 28.23, followed by Julian Forbes in 28.47 and Ben Haines in 28.59. Richard Goddard was 1st V60 in 33.39. Laura Fricker was 1st WAC lady in 32.35, followed by Alice Smith in 33.34 and Phillipa Stephens 1st V50 in 35.34

Off-Road race results

Friday saw Josh Harris start the first race on the new Dartmoor 100 round. This race is about 106 miles and Josh made the most of the clear weather on Friday although the wet conditions of the last few weeks made parts of the new 100 ring route into more of a bog. The tracker allowed people to follow Josh throughout the race on Saturday and see his progress toward the finish. Having completed a fantastic distance of 93 miles and going into the dark again the conditions forced Josh to retire but certainly a tremendous effort.

Saturday saw 8 WAC runners take part in two races in the Brecon Beacons. The Brecon Ultra 46 miles and the Trail marathon 26 miles.

The Trail marathon covered 4200ft of climb with Innes Mackay finishing in 6.29.41. Sarah Weare and Kat Louise tackled the route together and finished in 7.49.21.

The Ultra started much earlier in the day with two 23-mile laps to complete. Liza French Finished 3rd lady overall in a time of 9.41.25. Louisa Ansell, Casper Harvey, and Andy Galey had done much of their training for this event together and finished the route together in a time of 12.11.22. Paul Bird was well on his way to completing the event and had finished the first lap in 6.22.41, unfortunately he had a fall well into the second lap. Paul carried on until a personal longest ever 41 miles but had to drop out due to his injury at this checkpoint.

Sunday saw 9 WAC runners take part in one of the oldest established local multi terrain races the ever-popular Sodbury Slog 10-miles. The course was as wet if not wetter than normal so plenty of mud and fun looks as though it was had. Marc Whiting was 1st WAC runner in 1.23.52, followed by Marc Bostock in 1.31.30. The remaining squad of Ness Wilce, Rachel and Pete Stacey, Ann Clutterbuck, Nic Currell, Tarisa Barker, and Pete Bartlett finished together in 2.33.12.
